How to Say 'Banana' in Spanish

How to Say 'Banana' in Spanish | Technology Bytes and Gadgets | Scoop.it

Seth Dixon's curator insight, September 22, 2016 3:02 PM

I've lived in both the plátano and banano sub-regions of the Spanish-speaking realm and this discrepancy was one I always found curious (likewise, peanut butter is called crema de cacahuate in Mexico, but mantequilla de maní in Costa Rica). I've had many humorous encounters with friends from throughout the Spanish-speaking world when words that mean one thing in a particular country have VERY different connotations in another.

Questions to Ponder: Why do languages have different vocabularies in distinct places?  Why makes a language especially prone to a varied set of regionalized terms?

Letter Way - A Fun Game to Practice Recognizing and Spelling Words - iPad Apps for School | Technology Bytes and Gadgets | Scoop.it

- iPad Apps for SchoolLetter Way is a fun and free iPad app to use to practice recognizing and spelling words. The game presents you with a grid of letter blocks that you have to flip and drag to spell words. The beginning levels of the game have grids of 25 letters. As you progress through the levels the grids expand and the number of words that you have to spell in each level increases too. To progress through the levels you have to clear the board by using all of the letters at least once.

Use Apple TV in the Classroom? Please Do This Tip! - teachingwithipad.org

Use Apple TV in the Classroom? Please Do This Tip! - teachingwithipad.org | Technology Bytes and Gadgets | Scoop.it
This is a must for those teachers use the great benefits that the AppleTV can bring to the classroom.

Do you see this intro screen when the Apple TV turns on?

Those movies on the top? While a lot of these are the most popular movies playing though it is, they may not be the most appropriate for our students. This happened just today as I was teaching in another classroom, and it was a small distraction during my lesson. Kids were excited to see their favorite movie, in this instance, Big Hero 6. They cheered and became excited. Wild this case was harmless, I can only imagine other cases where movies that are rated PG-13 or higher can cause some concern for teachers of younger students. These can even be a distraction for high schoolers, who will likely veer off topic if they see a movie that they like or dislike.

This is important advice for those who are into flipped class room teaching. Time and again, it has been reiterated that stand alone powerpoint presentations are not good enough unless they are backed by a voice over, or a verbal presentation, or a description short though it may be on each slide. The tips given in the article will help in preparing PPTs. with Voice Over.

Apple TV Settings for the Classroom - Learning in Hand

Apple TV Settings for the Classroom - Learning in Hand | Technology Bytes and Gadgets | Scoop.it
If there’s an Apple TV in the classroom, it’s most likely used to mirror teacher and student iPads or MacBooks. There are plenty of other ways to display an iPad on a large screen, and Apple TV is one of the most popular because it has AirPlay. AirPlay is Apple’s technology that will stream a live view of whatever is on an iOS device's screen. This is why Apple TV is so popular. This mirroring ability through AirPlay is built into all iPads (except the first generation iPad) and all newer iPhones and iPod touches.

This is very informative for anyone who speaks in public. The moral of this Slideshare is to keep quiet about your internal dialogue. When you speak, everything you say should benefit your audience. When you ask the audience to sympathize with you, you take away from their experience. Sharing stories and taking questions is great, apologizing for being unprepared and talking about yourself is not. Great article.
