Type to Design (non commercial use only): Text, in Instagram Photos | technologies | Scoop.it
An Instagram generated font
John Dalziel's insight:

Framed photos of letters alongside each other, together spelling a name or word, is a growing trend offline. If practitioners and/or learners want to make something similar online, Type To Design is the site they’re looking for.
Using the Instagram photos from #36daysoftype, this easy to use web site will turn anything users type into a series of photos.
By just start typing they will see their collage, instantly.
NOTE: If they don’t like any of the letters they see, they just need to click it and it will change.
If they’re wondering where any particular letter came from, hover over it; a link to the original image on Instagram will pop up on the right.
Once users are happy with everything, they can download the image for sharing on social networks or anywhere else as long as it's a non commercial use.

Free Broken Link Checker / Online URL Validator - finds dead / bad weblinks | technologies | Scoop.it
Free Broken Link Checker / Online HTML Validator - find dead hyperlinks
John Dalziel's insight:

A "must take a closer look" for web designers and learning providers.
Why?
Because Dead hyperlinks on websites are not just annoying – their existence may cause some real damage to your reputation on the Internet!
As a result, learning providers, and/or others, may:
   - Lose some of the user base (current users sooner or later will get frustrated enough to never come back)
   - Get problems with getting new learners/clients (because of the dead weblinks people simply won't be finding things/pages they are looking for).
   - Damage your reputation online (most of online customers consider stale hyperlinks as demonstration of no respect to them from the web presence's owners)
   - Have negative impact on your website's ratings with major Search Engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing etc

Sketchpad 3.6 - Draw, Create, Share!

Sketchpad 3.6 - Draw, Create, Share! | technologies | Scoop.it
Sketchpad; multi-touch, multi-user, non-destructive drawing application written in HTML5.
John Dalziel's insight:

If you, and/or learners, are currently creating posters or drawings the traditional way and you'd like to offer an electronic method, I'd recommend checking out Sketchpad from Sketch.io.
Sketchpad from Sketch.io is an easy, online sketchpad that lets learners draw and create within their browser without the need to make an account.
Initially it may appear to be like all kinds of other online sketching tools you've seen.
But, if you dig into it more, you'll discover lots of features that many others lack.
The gear tool, for example, is highly customizable so that the gear can be practically any shape you'd like.
The real stand outs for me are the blending types, such as darken and overlay, that really move it up a notch. Add in layer control and it's a really full feature tool!

Hover.css - A collection of CSS3 powered hover effects

Hover.css - A collection of CSS3 powered hover effects | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:

Hover.css is a free CSS library to easily apply animation, within web-based resources, using the hover effect.
Users can apply the hover in call to actions, buttons, logos, images and much more.
The library comes with over 40 effects to choose from and they’re categorized according to the following...
   - 2D transforms,
   - border transitions,
   - shadow and glow transitions,
   - speech bubbles, and
   - page curls.
When dealing with the issue of trying to get a learners attention, hover is a great way to draw their attention to a link or button.

As I'm sure you're aware, hover normally works by changing the element colour or gradient state when users move their cursors over it. But, with a lot of features in CSS3, a lot of things can also be customised with the hover effect.

One of them is applying animation. And Hover.css can make it happen with ease.
