formRecycler - Google Forms add-on - assemble a quiz by selecting questions from prior quizzes used within Google Forms | technologies | Scoop.it
Recycle questions from other Forms in your Drive by selecting them in the Sidebar!
John Dalziel's insight:
Looking for a simple way to quickly assemble a quiz by selecting questions from prior quizzes used within Google Forms? Yes!
Well formRecyler makes that process much easier than rewriting each question.
When Educators have the formRecycler Add-on installed, they can access all of their existing Google Forms and then pick questions from one of those existing Forms to use in a new form.
NOTE: Educators can use formRecycler multiple times on the same form and thereby include questions from multiple existing forms in their new form.
This is a big "Time-saver" and much easier than rewriting each question.

Embed Responsively - a free web app that auto-generates embed codes for a wide array of media sites and even supports default iframe elements.

Embed Responsively - a free web app that auto-generates embed codes for a wide array of media sites and even supports default iframe elements. | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:
Many Educators already know how to embed videos within their courses, blogs etc., as embedding is the easiest way to share content and improve their articles, content, resources etc., with relevant media.
However, there’s a problem with iframes and other similar video embeds: the lack of responsive solutions.
The goal is to keep the video flexible while maintaining the aspect ratio — that's not an easy task.
Today, all modern sites are fully responsive and the addition of a "fixed video" can really break that flow on mobile devices.
To overcome this problem, Educators, and/or learners, should take a closer look at Embed Responsively.
By default, users can choose from a handful of multimedia sites that support native embeds...
  - YouTube
  - Vimeo
  - DailyMotion
  - Instagram
  - Twitter
  - Google Maps
  - Soundcloud
  - Scribd
Users just...
  - copy the URL of whatever item they want to embed
  - paste it into the web app and
  - click the “Embed” button.
Users are provided with a preview that they can test in their browser by resizing, to see how the video adapts.
Underneath the preview pane, they’ll find a block of code that they can copy/paste and use to embed on their site(s).
Embed Responsively is one of the simplest solutions to the responsive embed problem.

Qlone - the all in one tool for 3D Scanning

Qlone - the all in one tool for 3D Scanning | technologies | Scoop.it
With Qlone, anyone can instantly scan any object, modify it for any purpose and seamlessly export it to any platform… all on your iPhone or iPad.
John Dalziel's insight:
I'm sure there are many courses where a photograph of an object isn't realy enough to provide the same experience as seeing the actual object and/or be able to see it from different view-points. This is where 3D Scanning come in.
Qlone is an all-in-one 3D tool for both educators and learners.
For an overview, take a look at https://www.youtube.com/embed/BkOxvT_esQo ;
As you will see from that clip, Qlone provides an easy and fast way to scan real objects, using a phone's camera.
The resulting scan can then be modified, in the app, and exported to many platforms, 3D file formats and 3D printers…
Note: I understand there will be an Android version in the future.
So basically, iPhone and/or iPad users just...
  - Print the included AR mat,
  - place the object in the middle of the mat and
  - let the Augmented Reality dome guide you through the scanning process.
-Scan the object from two different angles, auto merged for complete 3D results.
Users can share the resulting models on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp and many other platforms.
NOTE: Qlone is free to download and free to scan but to use "export the 3D models", users need to unlock them with credits that they can purchase in the app. One credit equals one export.
Qlone has potentially so many uses within learning environments including...
  - saving learners artwork, woodwork, metalwork, the list goes on;
  - labelling scanned 3D shapes in STEAM subjects
  - changing the colours of 3D shapes
  - sharing with others e.g. peers, educators, assessors etc.
  - combine with a 3D printer to make replicas and/or
  - Use the Augmented Reality View function, to beam the 3D models back into the real world!
I'm sure educators will have already thought of many more uses in their subject areas.

So to sum up...
With Gabsee users can fully express themselves through their own avatar in augmented reality.
They just...
  - Create their 3D avatar, customise it as they like and dress it with their favourite clothes
  - Choose what they are feeling like doing.
  - Place their avatar in real life with their smartphone camera. They can move around it, thanks to the augmented reality
  - Record a short video, with audio, of their 3D avatar

Applied Digital Skills:- Digital Tools to Help Learners Succeed On-line

Applied Digital Skills:- Digital Tools to Help Learners Succeed On-line | technologies | Scoop.it

Help your learners succeed on-line and prepare for their careers with free digital tools and online lessons from Applied Digital Skills.

John Dalziel's insight:
There are so many digital resources today, so many educators, including myself, who are regularly sharing resources and ideas for teaching, so many ways to focus the learning process on the interests and abilities of learners, that when educators complain that their learners are not engaged, it has to be the time to stop and to look carefully at why this happening.
Educators, need to push their limits, seek new approaches which will stimulate curiosity and an appetite for learning.
Educators need to give learners the space and time to practice, to create and not just consume knowledge to pass exams.
Applied Digital Skills is a free technology curriculum aligned with ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education); it provides free lessons for educators to dip into and use or adapt to their teaching context.
Each lesson indicates the necessary time, level (i.e. who it is most suitable for), a focus on the skills which are meant to be developed, as well as a rubric.

When learners complete the assessment, they will automatically receive PDF certificate in their email inboxes if they have passed the quiz.

6 More websites to get FREE stock images | technologies | Scoop.it
Photographic materials to enrich educational courses...
John Dalziel's insight:
When looking for images to use within education, the first step is to decide what you are looking for and to make sure that you are being as specific as possible.
Using keywords on search tools can help educators, and/or learners, find what they are looking for.
Stock photos are generic photos of people, places and things that are licensed for commercial use and are available to anyone who wants to use them.
Some Stock photo sites include other visual material such as...
  - video clips,
  - audio,
  - vectors,
  - illustrations and
  - editorial content,
...which often comes with a price.
Basically, multimedia materials to enrich educational courses! This post adds more websites to those that I've posted in the past, where educators, and/or learners, can find and download free images. In alphabetical order we have...
  - Burst - https://burst.shopify.com/ - is supported by Shopify, it offers a great deal of visually-appealing images that educators, and/or learners, can use. While it has a relatively small collection Burst also offers some tips and business ideas that users can take inspiration from.
  - FreeImages - https://www.freeimages.com/ - lists many photo categories visitors can choose from ranging from popular sectors such as business, arts and education, and other specific subjects that educators can make relevant to the subject they teach.
  - LifeofPix - http://www.lifeofpix.com/ - provides a, somewhat limited in numbers, gallery of free high resolution images to choose from. In each category, the LifeofPix site offers the opportunity to search for more photos through the photographers’ profiles, to check free videos and to upload your own material. DoppelMe - Free Dynamic Avatars

DoppelMe - Free Dynamic Avatars | technologies | Scoop.it
Create great looking avatars for your website or social network
John Dalziel's insight:
By creating a digital image of themselves, an avatar, learners can reflect on their roles and responsibilities as digital citizens.
Some of the avatars created will look like the actual learner and others will be symbols or graphical representations of them.
When creating their avatars...
  - Why did they make the choices they did?
  - What impact will these choices have on others if used within on-line communities?
Learners can also create avatars for characters, within texts that they are reading, which in turn can encourage discussions.
I've had a play with DoppelMe a web tool to create avatars.
In their words...
"DoppelMe is a great way to express your personality and communicate with others on the internet. This visual online identity puts a friendly face on your internet presence and best of all, you can quickly update it depending on your mood. You are not limited to the internet either and can download your avatar to use in documents, greetings cards, letters...the list is endless."
Do Learners or Educators need to register?
Registering allows users to save their DoppelMe on-line and be able to log in and make changes at any time.
That way their avatar is dynamic; changes that they make are seen everywhere in cyberspace where their DoppelMe exists.
Other benefits of registering include having access to more items with which users can customise their DoppelMe.
NOTE:-  Learners and educators can create a DoppelMe and save or capture the image for their own use without the need to register.
If as an educator you want to add your learners avatars to a web presence, take a look at http://doppelme.com/faq/technical.asp which provides the Technical solutions.
You can see my first two attempts embedded on my website at http://www.acljohn.com/ Well worth trying out!

WebRoom: provides all the features required for effective live on-line classes and meetings

WebRoom: provides all the features required for effective live on-line classes and meetings | technologies | Scoop.it
Teach or Meet Live Now
John Dalziel's insight:
Many Educators are looking for ways to host an on-line learning environment, an on-line tutoring session and/or to 'connect and collaborate' with colleagues, the list goes on.
At times all of us could use a free and easy way to create on-line rooms.
Yes you could use Google Hangouts, but, to be fair, more times than not at least one person has trouble signing into the Hangout (Heads-up - the cause is usually found in having multiple Google Accounts open at the same time).
Other virtual 'conference room platforms' can be expensive.
A possible solution to both of those problems is WebRoom which provides all the features required for effective live on-line classes and meetings.
Basically there are three steps...
  - Create a room - just enter your name and email address,
  - Invite Participants - use the invite function, or share the link provided via email, chat or however you like and
  - that's it - Participants join instantly by clicking the link.
As for the technical requirements...
  - Browsers... a current version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari or Edge
  - Mobile Devices...Android OS 4+ and Chrome application or Android 5+ with a built-in Chrome browser. iOS mobile devices (iPhone, iPad and iPod) with iOS 11 or above and only with Safari browser IMPORTANT!
Heads up - a connection between Safari and Edge browsers, at the time of posting this, can not be established.
Last of all, take a look at Richard Byrne's video clip "How to create a Virtual Conference Room" at https://www.youtube.com/embed/4BQYrR9Y4fs ;
This is a "I must try it out" tool!

Zoho Notebook - Note Taking App - Add Text, Images, Audio, Checklist  | technologies | Scoop.it
Notebook, unbound.
John Dalziel's insight:
Zoho Notebook is a great tool for learners.
The quick drawing capability makes Zoho Notebook a great option for learners when taking notes in maths, science, or any other subject, where typing isn't always the most efficient way to record notes.
Zoho Notebook is a free and advert-free tool for taking notes in...
  - typed,
  - drawn and
  - spoken
...form.
Zoho Notebook is available to use on...
There's also a Zoho Notebook web clipper to use in...
  - Chrome,
  - Safari and
  - Firefox.
Zoho Notebook's web clipper is the tool used to save links in the users notebooks.
The web clipper lets users...
  - save links,
  - take screenshots and
  - write notes.
There's also a "clean view" option in the Zoho Notebook web clipper that removes sidebar content from articles that users find and read on the web; that's a big plus in itself!
For an overview of Zoho Notebook's web clipper, watch the video clip at https://www.youtube.com/embed/63W9hFEGbG4 ;
Everything that learners, and/or educators, save in Zoho Notebook will sync across all of the devices on which they use it.
There isn't a limit to the number of devices on which they can use Zoho Notebook.
Zoho Notebook has a very clean design, where notes can be organised into notebooks with customised covers.
NOTE: the first minute of any spoken notes is automatically transcribed to make them easier to later search for in the notebooks.
Pictures and task lists can also be added to a user's notebook.
