ClassHook | Educational Clips from Popular Media

ClassHook | Educational Clips from Popular Media | technologies | Scoop.it
Teach your students using their favorite TV shows and movies.
John Dalziel's insight:
ClassHookuses YouTube as a source of videos and can...
  - save Educators time when searching for a video clip to support a point in their lesson plan.
  - also be helpful in finding a video to build a flipped lesson upon.
ClassHook enables educators to search for video clips according to subject and topic.
Most of the video clips found on ClassHook come from television shows and movies.
ClassHook has also introduced a new feature that filters profanity from videos. This new feature is called "profanity skipping" and it does what the name implies. As a video plays back, any profanity in the clip is skipped. Profanity skipping was developed by ClassHook in response to educators who said they had found a clip that would be useful in a lesson except for one or two swear words. ClassHook's profanity skipping feature will let those educators use such clips.

Looking for ways that educators and/or learners can build animations by drawing, typing, and inserting images?
Well ABCya Animate is a simple, fun tool from ABCya that enables learners to create animated GIFs containing up to 100 frames.
A nice feature with ABCya Animate is that learners can see the previous frames of their animations while working on a current frame.

Presentation Authoring Tools

Presentation Authoring Tools | technologies | Scoop.it
"one size doesn't fit all"!
John Dalziel's insight:
As Educators we are aware that presenting is a skill that requires practice at two levels...
  - the first level is related to the creation process and
  - the second one is related to the delivery of the final product, that is, the actual presenting before an audience.
The "Presentation Creation Tools" listed in this post are worth a closer look.
Planning is first step in creating a successful presentation; a process...
  - to decide on the final content to use on the presentation slides
  - to structure the content in such a way that will make it easy for the audience to follow and understand the content/message.
Once the planning is complete educators need to use a web tool of their choice to create their presentation.
In no particular order, tools I've not posted about before, but are worth a closer look are...
  - Keynote - https://www.apple.com/ca/keynote/ - one of the best free presentation softwares for Mac users.
Keynote embeds all the required features educators need to create their presentations.
These include...
  ... free templates,
  ... different animation styles,
... embedding of various content types such as text, images, tables, charts, etc.
NOTE: presentations are saved to iCloud so users can access them anywhere they are.

formRecycler - Google Forms add-on - assemble a quiz by selecting questions from prior quizzes used within Google Forms

formRecycler - Google Forms add-on - assemble a quiz by selecting questions from prior quizzes used within Google Forms | technologies | Scoop.it
Recycle questions from other Forms in your Drive by selecting them in the Sidebar!
John Dalziel's insight:
Looking for a simple way to quickly assemble a quiz by selecting questions from prior quizzes used within Google Forms? Yes!
Well formRecyler makes that process much easier than rewriting each question.
When Educators have the formRecycler Add-on installed, they can access all of their existing Google Forms and then pick questions from one of those existing Forms to use in a new form.
NOTE: Educators can use formRecycler multiple times on the same form and thereby include questions from multiple existing forms in their new form.
This is a big "Time-saver" and much easier than rewriting each question.

Embed Responsively - a free web app that auto-generates embed codes for a wide array of media sites and even supports default iframe elements.

Embed Responsively - a free web app that auto-generates embed codes for a wide array of media sites and even supports default iframe elements. | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:
Many Educators already know how to embed videos within their courses, blogs etc., as embedding is the easiest way to share content and improve their articles, content, resources etc., with relevant media.
However, there’s a problem with iframes and other similar video embeds: the lack of responsive solutions.
The goal is to keep the video flexible while maintaining the aspect ratio — that's not an easy task.
Today, all modern sites are fully responsive and the addition of a "fixed video" can really break that flow on mobile devices.
To overcome this problem, Educators, and/or learners, should take a closer look at Embed Responsively.
By default, users can choose from a handful of multimedia sites that support native embeds...
  - YouTube
  - Vimeo
  - DailyMotion
  - Instagram
  - Twitter
  - Google Maps
  - Soundcloud
  - Scribd
Users just...
  - copy the URL of whatever item they want to embed
  - paste it into the web app and
  - click the “Embed” button.
Users are provided with a preview that they can test in their browser by resizing, to see how the video adapts.
Underneath the preview pane, they’ll find a block of code that they can copy/paste and use to embed on their site(s).
Embed Responsively is one of the simplest solutions to the responsive embed problem.
