John Dalziel's insight:
My audio at https://clyp.it/200xewgx probably says it all, apart from the fact that Clyp is also available for Android and iOS devices.
I understand that using those devices is actually the best way to record audio on Clyp.
NOTE: - There is an upload limit of 100mb per a single upload which is the equivalent of an hour if you are uploading an mp3 file.
Also, Clyp supports different audio file types including mp3, ogg, m4a, wav, aiff, aif and 3gpp.
I don't think I need to list the many ways Clyp can be used by learners and/or practitioners.

Audacity® | Free, open source, cross-platform audio software for multi-track recording and editing. | technologies | Scoop.it
Empty description
John Dalziel's insight:
If Education Practitioners are looking to edit audio files, then Audacity should be at the top of their toolbox list.
Audacity can record live audio through a microphone or mixer, or digitise recordings from other media.
With some sound cards, and on any recent version of Windows, Audacity can also capture streaming audio.
Audacity is the easiest tool available to...
  - cut,
  - copy,
  - splice and mix audio,
  - record live files,
  - change the speed and pitch of a recording, and
  - import/export some obscure file formats.
Note - Audacity Portable - https://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/audacity_portable - is worth a closer look as it is the popular Audacity audio editor packaged as a portable app; practitioners and their learners can take their audio files along with everything they need to edit and record on the go.
Users can place it on a USB flash drive, iPod, portable hard drive or a CD and use it on any computer, without leaving any personal information behind.

ViewedIt - Screen, Voice and Webcam Recorder for Practitioners who use Google Chrome and/or Chromebooks | technologies | Scoop.it
Video for All
John Dalziel's insight:
ViewedIt is a free Chrome extension that makes it quick and easy to create and share screencast videos.
ViewedIt could be a good screencasting tool for teachers who use Chromebooks and want to share tutorial videos with their learners.
Being able to track when learners watch their videos is an added bonus.
With the extension installed users can record their entire screen or just one window tab.
ViewedIt will let users record themselves with their webcam as well.
To record on ViewedIt users simply have to...
  - click the extension icon
  - choose what they want to record.
...when they're done recording (max time of 1 hour per video), their video is automatically stored on ViewedIt.
From ViewedIt users can share their video via email and social media.
If they choose to share via email, they will be able to track who watched their video and the percentage of the video they watched.
There is no limit to the number of videos users can record.
NOTE : To be honest, ViewedIt has the following shortcomings...
  - it doesn't let users download their videos and
  - it doesn't let users upload their videos to YouTube or other platforms.
Still worth a closer look, especially if practitioners are engaging with "Flipped Learning" and/or only have Chromebooks.

Recap - allows learners to prepare dialogue, express it, and get feedback on their speaking

Recap - allows learners to prepare dialogue, express it, and get feedback on their speaking  | technologies | Scoop.it
John Dalziel's insight:
Recap is an app that allows learners to record video answers to questions the practitioner asks.
In short, the practitioner asks a question, called a “Recap,” and the learners respond via video.
How Does It Work?
The practitioner begins by posing a question to the learners.
This can be done as a text question and/or as a video.
After writing or recording the question, the practitioner then has the option to determine...
► how long the students have to record their answers, and
► whether to send the question to the entire class or just to specific students.
A nice way to differentiate and personalise learning!
When a learner logs into or launches the...
...the question is there waiting.
The Recap will launch immediately after loading, but the learner is able to close the Recap in order to respond at a later time.
Recaps that learners have done stay on the learner screen, but the learner cannot edit or delete them.
Practitioner are able to delete a Recap, however.
When practitioners watch the Learner's Recap, they have the ability to leave a typed comment for the learners.
Learners are then able to comment back to the practitioner in text form.
If a comment has been made, a little icon with a number will appear in the top right corner of the video.
NOTE: 1: If learners have email accounts, it is recommended that when learners sign into the app that they use their own accounts.
2: Learners will still have a "class code" so they can join specific practitioner courses
...it is a more secure way to use Recap, because if learners only sign in using a "class code", they will have access to everyone else’s work. They will be able to see their course-mates’ Recaps, respond to comments as a class-mate, and accidentally record as another learner.
Speaking and Listening are important skills and Recap allows learners to...
► prepare dialogue,
► express it, and
► get feedback
...on their speaking in a non-threatening way.
When practitioners use the commenting feature, they can provide constructive feedback for the speaker, and learners can practice again if the response needs some clarity or refining.

Discover and share the world of audio. Clyp is a free, simple and fun way to record and share the sounds in your life with friends and family. Now available on iOS.
John Dalziel's insight:

Clyp.it is one of easiest-to-use audio recording tools that I've tried.

To record on Clyp.it users simply go to the website and click the big record button (they may have to allow pop-ups in their browser in order for Clyp.it to access their microphone).

When they've done recording, they click the share button and are taken to a page on which they can download their recording or grab an embed code to post the recording within a web presence.
Clyp.it is also available to use as a free iOS app or as a free Android app.
