iTools One-stop manager of your iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch

iTools One-stop manager of your iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch | technologies | Scoop.it
One-stop manager of your iPhone, iPad & iPod Touch
John Dalziel's insight:

iTools is a simple and powerful tool for iPad, iPhone, iPod touch users; both learners and practitioners.
It is 100% freeware and a mobile tool. Users don't need to install the software onto a PC. Run iTools from a USB stick, as and when it is required.
The biggest plus for me is the ability to share both my iPhone and iPad screens on a Windowns PC; this is useful for both teaching and, as I've discovered, screen casting from the various apps. Resulting video clips are .avi.
iTools helps users manage media, iBooks, pictures and other files in their iDevices; although I haven't tried it yet, users are assured iTools can help install, uninstall and backup apps; it also can backup and restore folders.

Apps in the Classroom - a vetting process to help practitioners evaluate apps

Apps in the Classroom - a vetting process to help practitioners evaluate apps | technologies | Scoop.it
A free downloadable guide created by Apple to help Educational Practitioners make the best of iOS apps in their teaching
John Dalziel's insight:
My Facebook Page is mainly about Educational Apps and FiTES (Find, Try, Evaluate and Share)
However with more apps being designed and uploaded every single day, the iTunes App Store contains over 2 million apps.
There's a limit to how many I/we can review and it's no surprise that a large portion of these apps are education oriented covering a wide variety of subjects from learning a new language to virtually exploring the human body.
However, again no surprise, not all apps do what they claim to do and, even worse, some of them have internal bugs and errors that affect their overall performance and render them inappropriate for use with learners in their learning environments.
That's why practitioners need a vetting process to help them evaluate apps which they could use in their learning environments. "Apps in the Classroom" is a resource that will guide practitioners through this process.
Apps in The Classroom is a free downloadable guide created by Apple to help Educational Practitioners make the best of iOS apps in their teaching.
It provides teachers with guidelines and criteria to assist them with evaluating the suitability of apps.
The criteria cover four major areas...
► Developmental Appropriateness,
► Engagement,
► Instructional Design, and
► Motivation.
Each of these areas features a number of key questions practitioners should ask when selecting an app.
Those of you who are already qualified, and those of you currently training to become teachers, should read "Apps in Classroom" to learn more about how to appropriately select educational apps to use with your learners.

Note Taker HD on the App Store

Note Taker HD on the App Store | technologies | Scoop.it
Read reviews, compare customer ratings, see screenshots, and learn more about Note Taker HD. Download Note Taker HD and enjoy it on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
John Dalziel's insight:
If you still prefer to take handwritten notes in meetings, learning environments/ etc., then take a look at Note Taker HD - It was one of the first note taking apps designed specifically for the Apple iPad and has long been known as a powerful and stable application for writing and organising handwritten notes and diagrams.
Note Taker HD shrinks the user's hand-writing so they can easily fit a lot of text on a page.
Users can read the reduced-size "ink" as if they had written those letters with a very fine pen.
Note Taker HD gives users solid functionality and control to produce the pages they need.
NOTE: As a plus, Note Taker HD can also be used to annotate PDF files.
Worth a closer look...

Post-it Plus App

Post-it Plus App | technologies | Scoop.it
Moving great ideas forward — from start to finish
John Dalziel's insight:

Post-it notes are used in many ways to engage learners and capture learning, I can’t think of many practitioners who wouldn't, at some point in their career, have tried out the Post-it notes to see what they could offer them.
The Post-it Plus app takes that learning environment accessory and gives it a digital edge.
You can also take a look at why you should try it out at...

John Dalziel's insight:

This post provides a 'practitioner friendly' guide for setting up Apple TV.
What's that?
Apple TV is a box users attach to the projector / TV that picks up the screen of any iPad and displays it without the need for wires!
Practitioners can walk around their learning environments and display anything that’s on their iPad screen on the Projector/TV.
This means the practitioner can display from anywhere and even use the iPad's cameras to show learner work ‘live’ without gathering other learners around one point.
In workshops and similar learning environments, Apple TV can reduce Health & Safety risks.

Vocabulary SpellingCity App

Vocabulary SpellingCity App | technologies | Scoop.it
SpellingCity, that I included in the Functional Skills eMagazine Supplement some time ago, has recently launched a free iPad and iPhone app for learners.

The app gives learners access to the same vocabulary lists that they use on the SpellingCity website.

SpellingCity's list of words for students exceeds 42,000.

Learners and practitioners who register for accounts can create custom word lists (Note, new lists have to be made online. Through the app you can only access existing lists).

If learners don't register they can simply choose from the many suggested word lists created by SpellingCity.

The SpellingCity app offers six types of practice activities. The activities are...
- Teach Me,
- Test Me,
- Match It,
- Word Unscramble,
- Hang Mouse, and
- Which Word.
