Inside 'DuJour': Designing a Magazine for a Multi-Device Age

Inside 'DuJour': Designing a Magazine for a Multi-Device Age | Tech Talk Inn | Scoop.it

DuJour magazine was recently released in print, online and for mobile, social and email platforms all at the same time. Co-CEO explains that it's more than just a magazine, but an entire brand that they launched. The design of the magazine is meant for the reader to have the same experience across all platforms. The Design teams had to create an online and mobile experience that is just as luxurious as fliping through an oversized, glossy print magazine.

This process should become a norm for any kind of print publication like newspapers and books. If publications aren't making their content accessible online and through mobile/tablet, they are most likely losing a huge audience. [jk]

First Impressions of the Newest Social Site: Pheed | Social Media Today

First Impressions of the Newest Social Site: Pheed | Social Media Today | Tech Talk Inn | Scoop.it

What: New Social Media site Pheed just launched this morning. Pheed is the newest Silicon Valley startup who's slogan is "express yourself." The goal of the site is to encourage users to create original content.

Why: Pheed allows users to upload videos, audio, live streams, etc. to their profiles, so it becomes more of an artistic site than just a social media site to follow your friends. If a user upgrades to a premium site, they have the ability to charge others to subscribe to your Pheed.

POV: It will be interesting to see how this site will differ from YouTube, other than being able to add written content to your Pheed. It seems like a merge of blogs, YouTube and FB.

No Facebook Account Required: Facebook Messenger For Android Lets You Sign Up With Just A Phone Number

No Facebook Account Required: Facebook Messenger For Android Lets You Sign Up With Just A Phone Number | Tech Talk Inn | Scoop.it

Facebook just announced its first ever app open to people who don't have a Facebook account. The Messenger for Android app, and eventually Messenger for iOS, will allow non-Facebook users to sign up with just their name and phone number. This new app will compete with SMS and all the free-texting apps like Pinger and WhatsApp allowing users to message their contacts without any charge.

I'm not surprised that Facebook came out with this app competing with texting. There were rumors that Facebook was considering acquiring the free texting apps, but it looks like they're trying to come up with their own solution. They're reaching the population as a whole regardless if people have a Facebook account or not. I think some people may be hesitant about using this if they don't already have a Facebook account, because if they don't have an account there has to be a reason why they aren't on Facebook right? Chirpify: The Social Commerce and Payments Platform

Chirpify: The Social Commerce and Payments Platform | Tech Talk Inn | Scoop.it
Chirpify enables businesses and consumers to buy, sell, donate and pay in-stream on social media.

This could be a game changing app for low barrier to entry payment. WIth a simple tweet or comment reply via Twitter or Instagram, a payment can be made. Chirpify launched a "tweet a beer" program at SXSW.

Reminds me of another platform "Pay with a Tweet" (http://www.paywithatweet.com/). In exchange for tweeting the world about a promoted message, the tweeter would receive a reward. Great for brands trying to build a fan base and to expose new audiences to their work and messaging.

IFTTT / Put the internet to work for you.

IFTTT / Put the internet to work for you. | Tech Talk Inn | Scoop.it

IFTTT is the ultimate lifehacking tool for discerning digerati everywhere. Connecting the dots between services like Facebook, Craigslist, Tumblr, Yammer and many more, IFTTT integrates these APIs to create "recipes", such as "Create an Evernote note anytime a listing for "red bicycle" is added to Craigslist". Or "Email me whenever I upload a photo to Instagram."

The possibilities are endless, the payoff immense. An amazing tool, but one still tailored to hackers and developers.
