Start Making Sense | KazzaDrask Media

Start Making Sense | KazzaDrask Media | Tech Skills | Scoop.it

The idea of curating the vast sea that is the Internet is not new. For at least a decade now we've been trying to make sense of it. Blogging was a good start for many of us -- but the millions of blogs that we created in the process only contributed to the problem: too much good information and not enough good ways to find it.

In late 2011 I came across a service called ScoopIt and started curating the topic "What People Are Talking About Online". Two years later, ScoopIt is making a play to be the leading online curation tool with its new "humanrithm" technology, created in part by sourcing its regular users like KazzaDrask Media for feedback on how its curating process could be improved.

With billions of us logging onto the Internet everyday, something has to be done to help streamline the information overload that will soon lead to parts of the Internet spontaneously combusting under its own weight.

This is a great interactive tool for educational purposes.

Angel Bolton's curator insight, March 12, 2015 8:50 AM

The tools listed are easy to use.

Candace Theriot's curator insight, October 19, 2015 6:58 AM

This is a resource that breaks down the use of Web 2.0 tools into lists according to core content subjects and then by category of use. For someone that is not that familiar with many different tools, this is extremely helpful! It will save new users time and focus their search according to need.

Moving Outside the LMS: Matching Web 2.0 Tools to Instructional Purpose | EDUCAUSE.edu

Moving Outside the LMS: Matching Web 2.0 Tools to Instructional Purpose | EDUCAUSE.edu | Tech Skills | Scoop.it

An EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative case study from Georgia Southern University:

"While LMSs continually add tools to provide additional functionality, they typically lag behind the tools available in the Web 2.0 world. In addition, many of the newest Web 2.0 tools are developed for specific sets of users (medicine or education, for example). Since an LMS is used across many different college programs, it is not feasible for the commercial LMS to develop content-specific tools. The most compelling argument for the use of Web 2.0 tools may be that it is simply unnecessary to pay for additional modules/functions within an
LMS when tools that serve learning objectives well are free and widely available. To accommodate a “pedagogy comes first” philosophy, instructors should not feel limited by the set of tools contained within an LMS."

Beth Dichter's curator insight, January 13, 2013 6:55 PM

This post from Mark Gleeson provides a great overview of Meograph, a fairly new Web 2.0 tool that allows you tell stories using images/videos, text, maps and a timeline, or as Gleeson states the "who/what, when, and where." In addition Gleeson takes the time to describe how to use the tool in words as well as a video, and also discusses some of the issues that he experienced. The Meograph website is geared to journalism and education. The education section states that the benefits of the site include "making learning fun with interactive content, easy for students to create their own projects, and perfect for history, literature and more." To go directly to the education site click http://www.meograph.com/education.
