Teachers often ask youngsters to learn in ways that exceed even adult-sized attention spans - The Hechinger Report | Social Media Pedagogies | Scoop.it

Teachers are crying out for help to keep kids on task, but student …

Will Gaming Save Education, or Just Waste Time? -- THE Journal

Will Gaming Save Education, or Just Waste Time? -- THE Journal | Social Media Pedagogies | Scoop.it
Today's sophisticated digital games are engaging students and conveying hard-to-teach concepts like failure and perspective. So why aren't more classrooms playing along?

Gaming of any kind (I'm thinking of great playground, card, and board games as well) shows more about what is missing in education than what games can do.

Angered by MOOC Deals, San Jose State Faculty Senate Considers Rebuff

Angered by MOOC Deals, San Jose State Faculty Senate Considers Rebuff | Social Media Pedagogies | Scoop.it
The Senate is expected to vote on Monday on a proposal limiting the president's ability to make technology deals without the approval of faculty members who would be affected.
Sue Meabon Bartow's insight:

It seems like efforts to standardize education through the development standards for PK-12 education and, perhaps less consciously, the incorporation of a few popular or influential MOOCS are unlikely bedfellows. Along with other recent reform efforts, they call on us to be critical and careful consumers (for want of a better term at the moment).
