27 Simple Ways To Check For Understanding ~ TeachThought

27 Simple Ways To Check For Understanding ~ TeachThought | e-learning | Scoop.it

"Checking for understanding is the foundation of teaching.Whether you’re using formative assessment for data to personalize learning within a unit, or more summative data to refine a curriculum map, the ability to quickly and easily check for understanding is a critical part of what you do. (Which was the idea behind our post last March, “10 Assessments You Can Perform In 90 Seconds Or Less.”)

"The following infographic Mia MacMeekin offers up 27 additional ways to check for understanding. Some aren’t necessarily quick–”Test what you learned in a new situation”–but there are a dozen or more other ideas that are worth adding to your teacher toolbox, many of which aren’t content-related, but rather cognitively-related (Locate 3 people who agree with your point of view.)"

A great tool for digital storytelling with several sharing possibilities. Students can work collaboratively on these projects; they can create e-portfolios with Glogster; they can use a variety of media to create their projects which works well with differing language levels, it can also be used for their own learning. It's worth exploring as it has a lot of potential for both formal and informal learning.

This is a great list, we have used several of these in the past, but Socrative and Google  Forms are our favs. I would like to throw answergarden.ch in here as well, not so mich for quizzes, but more for brainstorming and quick feedback.

"...the LMS convinced us that teaching online was not only possible, it was easy -- that digital pedagogy was a mere work of relocation. Take your lectures and your assignments, create a slideshow or a video or a piece of audio, load it all up, and there you have it: online learning. Many early instructional designers believed that if we employed interactive Flash exercises and scaffolded learning according to Bloom's taxonomy, we'd end up with robust learning that engaged students in a way duplicate to classroom interaction."
