How Making Thinking Visible Helps Teachers and Students - November Learning

How Making Thinking Visible Helps Teachers and Students - November Learning | Teaching FRENCH | Scoop.it
Article Produced in Partnership with Cisco Education . One category of digital tools, making thinking visible, can give students a higher level of confidence to ask questions when they need help, or share their opinions and ideas with the rest of the class — leading to more thoughtful discussions. These same tools inform educators about how to plan for much more meaningful lessons. In the 1980s coming of age movie, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, one of the funniest scenes I remember (perhaps because I was a social studies teacher at the time) is the high school economics class with Ben [...]

Teaching in a Digital Age | The Open Textbook Project provides flexible and affordable access to higher education resources | Teaching FRENCH | Scoop.it

The book examines the underlying principles that guide effective teaching in an age when all of us, and in particular the students we are teaching, are using technology. A framework for making decisions about your teaching is provided, while understanding that every subject is different, and every instructor has something unique and special to bring to their teaching. The book enables teachers and instructors to help students develop the knowledge and skills they will need in a digital age: not so much the IT skills, but the thinking and attitudes to learning that will bring them success.

"Although the book contains many practical examples, it is more than a cookbook on how to teach. It addresses the following questions: is the nature of knowledge changing, and how do different views on the nature of knowledge result in different approaches to teaching? what is the science and research that can best help me in my teaching? how do I decide whether my courses should be face-to-face, blended or fully online? what strategies work best when teaching in a technology-rich environment? what methods of teaching are most effective for blended and online classes? how do I make choices among all the available media, whether text, audio, video, computer, or social media, in order to benefit my students and my subject? how do I maintain high quality in my teaching in a rapidly changing learning environment while managing my workload? what are the real possibilities for teaching and learning using MOOCs, OERS, open textbooks?"

Visual literacy in English language teaching

Visual literacy in English language teaching | Teaching FRENCH | Scoop.it

Visual literacy is the ability to create meaning from images. It involves decoding visuals using our own cultural and personal filters. This doesn’t just apply to static images. We can apply visual literacy to films, websites and social media platforms. In this post I’ll be outlining a few ways we can unlock images and generate learner output.

If you can't find anything about the information you seek to assess on any of the fact checker sites, then the next suggestion is to “go upstream”. That is, try to identify the original source of the information and consider its validity. This is where things really get going – the first technique is helpful and convenient, but this one is more fundamental.
