Reuben D Koontse's curator insight, November 11, 2015 2:06 AM

One of the critical  strategies that I think works towards students engagements depends on the tone with which one starts the lesson. This could be with just greeting. Is your "good morning"  like that of  when one greets ; an elderly person in a hospital bed;  your child on their birthday, a military supervisor  addressing his troops or a drama instructor about to continue with a good play.

The variation in your greeting clearly  sets the tone....

What volume is the lecture conducted at?

- High (  - suggesting students can't hear ( understand) or with the assumption that  the higher the volume the more the emphasis.

- Medium ( conversational)  -  which suggests both you and students can be involved in the discussion

low -  where students will often say , " what did you say again?".

Putting the magic back in teaching suggest a need for teachers to find their voice. Teaching is a calling and, when we are so busy we cannot pause and reflect for a moment, we do not hear the call.
