What really makes great teaching? - Telegraph

What really makes great teaching? - Telegraph | Teaching and Education | Scoop.it
Teaching is a long game; the really effective kind is already in place long before any particular lesson gets under way, says Kevin Stannard of the Girls’ Day School Trust

Elaine J Roberts, Ph.D.'s curator insight, November 4, 2014 10:15 AM

Those who expect immediate or rapid change in classrooms are delusional. Change takes time. And effective instruction and learning relies on a relationship between the students and the teacher, and building that relationship of mutual trust takes time.

"Effective teachers can be identified principally in terms of these 'deeper dimensions' of teaching: classroom management, expectations of students, relationship with students, and personal qualities like fairness and respect.

The point is that these dispositions are not created afresh at the start of each lesson. They are built over time, as relationships of confidence and trust between teacher and students."

Ivon Prefontaine, PhD's curator insight, November 4, 2014 10:29 AM

Teaching is the long game and requires hard work as we engage students in relationships which they choose to accept. The learning is their responsibility and we adjust what we do when students refuse or cannot accept the responsibility for any number of reasons.

This is How To Use Google Hangout in Your Classroom ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

This is How To Use Google Hangout in Your Classroom ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Teaching and Education | Scoop.it

If you are planning to use Google Hangout with your students then here is a very good video clip to help you learn more about the benefits of using this platform in your teaching. Though relatively new, Google Hangouts has been increasingly gaining in popularity particularly among educators and social media users.

Google Hangout  has several distinctive features that sets it apart from the crowd. First, it is integrated with other Google services like Youtube, Gmail, and Calendar and if you have a Google account then you automatically have a Google Plus account. Google Hangouts can also be recorded or streamlined live on YouTube using a generated link. The image and audio quality of hangouts are, I believe, better than the ones in Skype. Google Hangouts also supports a wide variety of third party apps that can be used to perform different tasks like adding emoticons, doodles, chat and many more.

To help you set up a Google Hangout with your students Educational Technology and Mobile Learning has this short visual guide to offer you. It will walk you through the different steps you need to follow to get your hangout up and going.

Here is a great hangout to learn more about how Google Hangout is being used by educators.
