Easy iPad Management for Education- At Scale!

Easy iPad Management for Education- At Scale! | Teachers Resources | Scoop.it

iPad deployment includes all of the steps between buying an iPad and beginning to use the device. For an individual’s personal iPad, this is often a very fast and easy process lasting no longer than five minutes: You just open the box, turn it on, download the apps you want on your device, and go. But for a school, or district, with potentially hundreds of iPads–each one requiring a specialized list of apps that need to be purchased before protecting the devices with a case and sending them out to classrooms. As an administrator or teacher, there are a few things you will need to know before you deploy your iPads

End of XP - how will you cope??

Are you prepared for the end of support for the Windows XP operating system in April 2014???

Damien Winters's insight:

The Windows XP operating system will become unsupported in April 2014, which means that the upgrades that Microsoft send you to fix the glitches which enable your computer(s) to run securely will end. But you do have a couple of options if you are one of the approximate 50,000 XP users…

... For many businesses Microsoft operating systems are all they know, so the obvious choice would be to upgrade to the latest Windows system which would be Windows 8. But if IT has not been at the top of your business's list for a while you might find that your hardware will not support this upgrade and you will have to update your entire IT infrastructure at significant cost.

Another option would be to pay for more support from Microsoft. If you have no other choice but to stick with Windows XP and want to remain protected, Microsoft will continue to support a select number of XP users who are willing to pay for it. This support doesn't come cheap though, one-year support is £125 per desktop, two-year support is £250 and three-year support is £500 for each computer.

And you could continue to use Windows XP and do nothing. The operating system will work in exactly the same way from April 2014 onwards... So why bother paying out when it's not absolutely necessary?

If running an unsupported system it is inevitable that one day the hacking community will find a way into your system and you will be putting your business data and potentially your customer's data at risk. Hackers can abuse this information and as it is done within your system. Your business will take the fall for it... Maybe burying your head in the sand isn't the wisest idea.

Speak to me for an informal discussion to decide how you should address this.
