Catherine Sergautis Announces Big Trip to India

Catherine Sergautis is a nurse who loves to travel, garden, and enjoy art.

Catherine Sergautis's insight:

Catherine Sergautis’s travels have taken her far and wide over the years, even if she always returns home to London, Ontario. This time, Catherine Sergautis is proud to announce, she is traveling all the way to India. “India has been on my list of dream destinations for a long time,” Catherine Sergautis notes. “I can’t wait to eat authentic Indian food, to hear the music. I’m very excited. I’ve been watching a lot of Bollywood films and the energy is infectious.”

India is home to some of the world’s most beautiful sights, including the Taj Mahal, a monument in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal in the seventeenth century. “I’m particularly looking forward to visiting the Taj Mahal,” said Catherine Sergautis. “It is the ultimate monument to love, really. It was built out of such great devotion.”

Catherine Sergautis’s daughter will accompany her on this trip. The child, only 2 year old, has already traveled widely. “I’ve taken her all over Canada, and we’ve been to Germany and some other areas of Western Europe. We’ve also been to New York and San Francisco. She loves to travel, although the time differences can mean we keep very strange hours. Babies don’t really understand jet lag,” laughs Catherine Sergautis.

Other famous sites that Catherine Sergautis hopes to visit include the Gandhi Museum, the Elephanta Caves, and the Lotus Temple. “There are a lot of famous temples and shrines I’d like to visit. I also really want to take in the markets. I’d love to buy my own sari. And open air markets are the best place to try local food,” says Catherine Sergautis, who counts curries and flavorful chutneys among her favorite foods. “I’m looking forward to eating fresh naan and chapatti,” two traditional Indian breads, notes Catherine Sergautis.

Catherine Sergautis leaves next week for her big Indian trip and is caught up in the whirlwind of packing. “I needed to get my daughter and I all the right vaccinations to travel to India. Now I’m doing all the extra packing that comes with traveling with a child,” Catherine Sergautis observes.

Catherine Sergautis Announces Birth of Her Daughter

Catherine Sergautis recently gave birth to a daughter. A lifelong London, Ontario resident, Catherine Sergautis plans to raise her daughter here as well and is excited about introducing her to the local sites and scenes. While they may live locally, Catherine Sergautis, who is an avid traveler, also plans to take her daughter with her on her many sightseeing trips.

Catherine Sergautis's insight:

“No, I won’t let having a child slow me down any,” Catherine Sergautis commented.  “She is going to be an inveterate traveler.  I’ll probably take her on her first flight in a few weeks.  Traveling will just be normal for her.”  She observed that their first flight as mother and daughter would probably be within the country to visit out of town family or to the Niagara Falls region where Catherine Sergautis went to college. There will, however, be a transatlantic flight not too long after that.  “We’re going to go visit friends in Germany next month,” said Catherine Sergautis. “I’ve been reading all of the articles about traveling with an infant and I feel very well prepared.”

Catherine Sergautis will be on maternity leave from her job as a Registered Practical Nurse for the next few weeks to care for her daughter and adjust to life as a new mother. “I’m so blessed to have given birth to this beautiful little girl,” Catherine Sergautis said. “I had put off having children for a while to go to school and then work, and then I even went back to school again! She has been a long time in the making.  I really wanted a girl, but most important is that she’s healthy.”

Catherine Sergautis is the picture of motherhood, flushed and overjoyed with her family surrounding her.  Extended family from both London and out of town has arrived to see the baby and extend their congratulations to Catherine Sergautis. Most came bearing gifts – blankets and baby dolls for the infant and flowers for Catherine Sergautis. “She’s already the most spoiled little girl,” Catherine Sergautis observed. “She has such a loving extended family who want her to have the best of everything.” Catherine Sergautis enjoys gardening with her husband, Ryan Maillet and young daughter, and going to the YMCA for swimming and play groups for her daughter.

Catherine Sergautis Announces Membership in RPNAO

Catherine Sergautis announces her membership in the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario, a prominent professional association.

Catherine Sergautis's insight:

Catherine Sergautis is proud to announce her membership in the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario. The Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario is a prominent professional society, counting among its ranks a majority of the over 38,000 registered practical nurses in Ontario. Of those, over 32,000 are currently practicing, a number that means that the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario has significant influence in the health care community and a large constituency that looks to it for support.

Catherine Sergautis has been working as a nurse for five years, since her 2008 graduation from Niagara College in Welland, Niagara Falls, Ontario. This period in her education is the only time Catherine Sergautis has lived outside of London, Ontario in her life.  As a registered practical nurse, Catherine Sergautis is proud to serve her home community. “Some of my patients are old friends or their families. Being a nurse in London gives me the chance to give back to those who have always supported me.”

As a member of the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario, Catherine Sergautis belongs to a body that aims to advocate for nurses within the healthcare establishment, provide additional education for nurses, and act as a professional front for interactions with other healthcare societies. “I believe really strongly in the work the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario does,” remarked Catherine Sergautis. “I believe in their mission of advocacy and have learned so much from their continued professional education courses since my graduation in 2008.  This organization’s work is really top-notch and they are always improving and forging new paths.”

The Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario has as its tag line, “The one unified voice for registered practical nurses in Ontario.” Catherine Sergautis vouches for this motto. “The Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario not only advocated for individual nurses rights within healthcare settings, but really allows nurses to present a united front when faced with negotiations or field-wide concerns.” Catherine Sergautis is proud to be a member of the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario and count herself among the many it has represented since its first incarnations in the 1940s.
