Sony unveils glasses-free 3D TV and color e-paper - Crave - CNET Asia | take off your glasses! | Scoop.it
Samsung recently did it and Toshiba already sells it. We are of course referring to glasses-free 3D TVs, less commonly known as autostereoscopic panels. Sony recently demonstrated a panel--without much fanfare--at the SID Display Week 2011 convention that ended today in Los Angeles, California.

Sony's 3D panels range from 10 to 23 inches and employ a "new" technology that utilizes two LCD backlights to achieve the 3D effect sans glasses. Turning off one backlight makes the TV display 2D images.

HTC Evo 3D review | Smartphones | Reviews | PC Pro

HTC Evo 3D review | Smartphones | Reviews | PC Pro | take off your glasses! | Scoop.it
The second 3D smartphone arrives, this time from the mobile juggernaut that is HTC.

LG won the race to put out the first 3D smartphone, with its Optimus 3D boasting twin cameras and an auto-stereoscopic screen, but industry giant HTC isn’t far behind. The HTC Evo 3D is a similar proposition, but with a few key differences.
The first is its camera controls. Like the LG, it has two cameras on a raised panel on the rear, here boasting two 5-megapixel sensors separated by a twin-LED flash. The difference is that HTC has placed a physical switch on the right side for flicking quickly between 2D and 3D mode, next to a proper two-phase shutter button. A small silver circle, it lets you push halfway to focus just like a normal camera, and is a vast improvement on touching the screen to prepare a shot.

Glass-Free 3D from Alioscopy | Kenneth Wong's Virtual Desktop

Glass-Free 3D from Alioscopy | Kenneth Wong's Virtual Desktop | take off your glasses! | Scoop.it
Technically, calling Alioscopy’s technology 3D is inaccurate. It would be more precise to call it 8D. According to Pia Maffei, Alioscopy’s director of operation (on her business card, her whimsical title reads “Puppet Master”), the system “uses 8 interleaved images to produce the autostereoscopic 3D effect.”

Last week, Alioscopy installed one of its 3DHD display units in the Autodesk Gallery at One Market (San Francisco, California). Since the gallery was just a short train-ride away from my apartment, I accepted Alioscopy’s invitation to see its technology at work.

CineForm is planning conversion utilities for all common 3D sources, yet today there aren't any license-able MVC decoders available (we expect this to change soon.)
