MrAndrewsOnline - iPads in Primary Education: 10 Practical Ways to Use Videoscribe HD in Education

MrAndrewsOnline - iPads in Primary Education: 10 Practical Ways to Use Videoscribe HD in Education | SWilcox Tech | Scoop.it

"In this post I'm going to share 10 practical ways Videoscribe HD can be used by teachers and pupils in their classrooms. Videoscribe HD is one of my favourite app, so much so I've recently signed up for the Pro Version on the Mac.

Videoscribe is so simple to use, and once the animation and music are combined the finished presentation can be very empowering. It can produce real quality results in a matter of a few minutes by both children as young as Early Years right through older children and adult who can explore some of the more complex features."

(EN) (PDF) - Glossary of Key Information Security Terms | National Institute of Standards and Technology

"The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has received numerous requests to provide a summary glossary for our publications and other relevant sources, and to make the glossary available to practitioners. As a result of these requests, this glossary of common security terms has been extracted from NIST Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS), the Special Publication (SP) 800 series, NIST Interagency Reports (NISTIRs), and from the Committee for National Security Systems Instruction 4009 (CNSSI-4009). This glossary includes most of the terms in the NIST publications. It also contains nearly all of the terms and definitions from CNSSI-4009. This glossary provides a central resource of terms and definitions most commonly used in NIST information security publications and in CNSS information assurance publications.
For a given term, we do not include all definitions in NIST documents – especially not from the older NIST publications. Since draft documents are not stable, we do not
refer to terms/definitions in them. Each entry in the glossary points to one or more source NIST publications, and/or CNSSI-4009, and/or supplemental sources where appropriate. The NIST publications referenced are the most recent versions of those publications (as of the date of this document).

Keywords Cyber Security; Information Assurance; Information Security"

45+ Teacher Recommended Educational Apps : Teacher Reboot Camp

45+ Teacher Recommended Educational Apps : Teacher Reboot Camp | SWilcox Tech | Scoop.it

"Educators are beginning to see the potential of using mobile devices and apps for ongoing professional development as well as to improve literacy and cognitive development for learners. Apps are equipped with several features that motivate learners to create stories, presentations, and projects that are hands-on and use their creativity as well as their critical thinking skills. Once an app is downloaded, many features can be accessed without an Internet connection. Educators can also use various apps at conferences to connect with other educators or capture a presentation. Below are the various apps nominated by teachers for an Edublog Award so they must be worth checking out. Each has a link and a description. Make sure to check out the Edublog Awards for blogs, wikis, and web tools that teachers worldwide have recommended."

iLearn Technology » Blog Archive » Evernote as an ePortfolio: Postach.io, Voice2Note, StudyBlue

iLearn Technology » Blog Archive » Evernote as an ePortfolio: Postach.io, Voice2Note, StudyBlue | SWilcox Tech | Scoop.it

"… this post is about Evernote and some neat new add-on apps I’ve been playing with.  At Anastasis, we use Evernote as our digital portfolio.  For the most part, this works brilliantly!  Students can record text, images, and audio directly into Evernote.  Notes can be shared and emailed to teachers and parents alike.  Evernote makes it easy to capture learning that isn’t natively digital in their eportfolio.  Snap a picture or create a short audio recording directly in Evernote and the learning is captured, searchable and sharable.  All of the incredible projects that our students create during inquiry can be reflected in Evernote portfolios.   Another HUGE benefit to the Evernote/iPad combo: it goes with them everywhere.  Recording learning on a field trip? Check. Recording learning at home? Check. Recording learning on the fly? Check. Teachers often send students a PDF instructions for an assignment or a picture to the student’s Evernote account. Parents can login to their child’s Evernote account from any computer or iDevice to see what they are working on.  Not only is learning captured on the device, but it is stored in the cloud.  This means that if a student iPad gets lost, damaged, etc. their work isn’t gone."

High School iPad/iPhone Teacher Resources

High School iPad/iPhone Teacher Resources | SWilcox Tech | Scoop.it

This site was created out of a desire to network in an inclusive way with all teachers who wanted to find iPad, iPhone, and iPod resources that can be useful at the secondary level.

Many on-line articles say things like "The 10 best reading apps", but many of the suggestions are aimed at primary and junior students. Hopefully the suggestions on this site will put intermediate and secondary teachers in touch with a few resources that apply more directly to them and their students.

The so called digital natives, children of today, they are familiar with the use of technology but not necessarily mean they are fluent to creatively create things with it. Analogues to expert to read but can’t write. Interesting and I tend to agree with the speaker. In this video the speaker then move to promote programming or coding as part of the learning creativity; it might be one size fits all to all subject matter, we can find ways in to be a creative digital ‘writer’, not just ‘reader’.

Comparison of screencasting software - Wikipedia

This is a comparison of notable screencasting software, used to record activities on the computer screen. This software is commonly used for desktop recording, gameplay recording and video editing. Screencasting software is typically limited to streaming and recording desktop activity alone, in contrast with a software vision mixer, which has the capacity to mix and switch the output between various input streams.

The following table compares features of screencasting software. The table has seven fields, as follows:

Kiera Hamling's curator insight, April 26, 2015 4:58 AM

Subject: Digital Technologies

Year Level: Years F-2

Strand: Digital Technologies Processes and Production Skills

Content Descriptor:  Work with others to create and organise ideas and information using information systems, and share these with known people in safe online environments

Elaborations: Participate in safe online environments, for example sharing ideas and information through intranets, messaging only to people they know, bookmarked websites and moderated online spaces

Using different types of data to create information for sharing online, for example creating a multimedia class profile that includes a photo of each student, a personal audio recording and a written message

Planning and creating text, drawings and sound files to share online, for example jointly creating a photo story to illustrate a fable or fairy-tale from the Asia region or a local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community story

Cross curriculum priorities and general capabilities:

*Personal and Social capability - making responsible decisions

*Ethical understanding - Students develop the capacity to understand and apply ethical and socially responsible principles when collaborating with others and creating, sharing and using technologies –materials, data, processes, tools and equipment.

Differentiation

Teachers can monitor access and how student use the app.

Examples of using this in the classroom:

This app is a child friendly layout version of iMovie. The app itself is perfect for the classroom as children can learn quickly how to navigate around and use the app confidently. Possible the best feature for the use in classrooms is the in built trailers!

The app allows you to create 12 different Hollywood style trailers all with different styles. You can customise film studio logos, cast names and credits , add and adjust videos and photos and add existing content from your library, or record new footage straight into your trailer.

Both storytelling techniques and persuasion can easily be covered using this app. Trailers for reading books, class stories or even using the trailers as planning for a written story. It really can be used to get the creative juices going within Literacy.

This app is perfect for planning and creating text, drawings and sound files to share online, for example jointly creating a photo story to illustrate a fable or fairy-tale. Students will be able to work with others to create and organise ideas and information using information systems, and share these with known people in safe online environments.
