Aedas decided to create an apartment building that reinterprets Hong-Kong's traditional architecture.

Located in the Mongkok District, with a population density of 130,000 people per square kilometer, the new tower features a lush living wall that enhances quality of life in the neighborhood.

The architects decided to add greenery at the pedestrian level with a green wall that will seemingly protrude from the solid façade of the podium and link the building to the historical cityscape...

The 'Hospital in Puyo' is composed of eight volumes, lined-up next to one another that are separated by lush green gardens.

The county of Puyo in Ecuador has received a new healthcare facility, composed of three rows of eight staggered volumes that are each shaped with the silhouette of a house. The long pavilions are arranged next to one another, and at certain points are physically connected by pitched roof structures from the exterior, with linking hallways along the interior below. Glazing runs along the inner and outer lengths of the walls, offering visitors, patients and staff of the hospital, views of lush green landscaping planted between openings throughout the site. The challenge posed when building the complex was that it needed to be constructed in record time– less than one year– while still emerging as a first-class leading facility for the area. To finish within the time frame, the architects developed a modular architecture, with a high degree of fabrication as seen by the identical nature of the building components.

Beijing-based Decode Urbanism Office has designed a 1,150 foot (350m) skyscraper located in Taichung City, Taiwan, to house the city’s Department of Urban Development, commercial concerns, museums, retail areas and exhibitions spaces. 


The building’s design was inspired by the plum blossom, the national flower of China and Taiwan. The building’s twisting and turning structure is intended to evoke the experience of plum blossoms bursting into bloom.

To do so, the facade has thousands of small diamond shaped wind turbines, which produce enough energy to power the building. These wind generators are set into the facade grid, oscillating as wind skirts the building.

Yet again another environmentally friendly design. This building has been designed to generate its own energy and power LED lighting throughout the building. This is done through the power of wind turbines which the building is completely surrounded by. It is becoming the newest trend in design to create buildings and structures that are helpful to the environment.

Morphosis Architects incorporates an innovative stainless steel facade screen to mitigate heat gain for new academic building.

Los Angeles–based Morphosis delivered a 100,000-square-foot, five-story building that is currently completing construction on Cornell University's Computing and Information Sciences (CIS) program structure.

While in essence a simple, efficient, rectangular plan and elevation, the design features several elements—including a twisting stainless steel sun screen and a protruding arm of the upper floors hovering above the main entrance—that make it an unmistakable product of Morphosis as well as a suitable looking enclosure for a discipline forged by the realities of the digital age.

River Place: A Contemporary Cantilever with a Strong Energy Conservation Agenda | Sustainable Conservation | Scoop.it

This contemporary project is located at the end of a single lane road cut into a hillside, on a dry west-facing slope near Juliaetta, Idaho.

To restore the pioneer vineyard for use, the two structures incorporate innovative construction methods in response to unique site requirements.

The location presented a number of challenges: temperatures that can reach 110+degrees F, periodic river flooding, and limited access for construction equipment. A strong energy conservation agenda was also an important requirement and the building forms were influenced by the site and environmental conditions.

Its all about going green these days and more and more archeatects are finding inovative ways of designing houses that use natural energy and resourses instead of wasting the earths materials. this project in particular makes use of solar pannels to regulate all power in the house. If only all houses could be built this way.

How the Czech and Austrian teams designed their entries for the California climate.

The Solar Decathlon Europe is not until 2014, but two European teams are competing stateside this year representing the Czech Republic and Austria. 

Designed by students at the Czech Technical University, Air House targets a demographic familiar to the students, their parents—the 50+ empty nesters. The team cites data that states that senior housing represents 20% of Czech households and that number is growing. Conceptualized as weekend country house, it transitions to a permanent residence as the owners retire.

LISI from Team Austria surprisingly blurs the line between inside and outside. Large retractable sliding glass doors on the north and south sides disappear into the core areas leaving the living open to the elements, more like a covered courtyard than an interior. Lightweight curtains wrap the house for privacy and extra shade when low sun angles are at their most intense.
