Gamify With Gusto!! This Edmodo group was created to provide support material for attendees of a presentation that I did with a colleague at the GaETC Conference. Games can put context into why people participate in various real-life activities in the same way that they can engage kids to get lost in another world. The lecture was to help support educators in using the power of play to ignite the learning passion in their classrooms this year. This session was geared to take a closer look at how and why it works and provide teachers with great resources to help them get the proverbial ball rolling!

Whoa! You have to check this interactive website designed by Susan Fisher of Ridgeview IB Charter School in Georgia. In her own words “This is the gamification website I created as an integral part of my “Dream Classroom” where students can experience and interact with the  curriculum in an exciting and unique way. It includes elements of flipping, webquest design, differentiation, gaming, and project based learning… just to name a few. Areas the students explore include Noob Quests, Cartographer’s Workshop, Shaman’s Insight, Capital City, Economist’s Lair, Library, Urgent Evoke and Arcadia. The names are all plays on the themes we visit throughout the year.”  It feels like Blade Runner meets Khan Academy… a great mix indeed.

View Susan Fisher's professional profile on LinkedIn. As a detailed and goal-oriented professional with over 15 years of education, collaboration, and facilitation experience, I have been successful in various complex organizations and know what I need to do to get a myriad of responsibilities done.
I enjoy using my experiences and current leadership roles to assist with process development and improvement, as I am a strong believer that great ideas can come from team members at all levels within an organization. I relish building relationships with others, knowing how to analyze data to prioritize tasks, and adapting to quickly changing conditions both internally and externally. One of my greatest loves is teaching higher level technology applications to students and teachers alike.
By creating a flipped and inspired classroom, the focus of my class has shifted off of traditional lectures and moved the emphasis to student generated learning. This model encourages students to collaborate and apply what they have already learned independently. Additionally, creating a gamified classroom has opened the door to increased differentiation and motivation.
For me, technology is an essential component of the 21st Century classroom. However, I believe that not all technology applications are "value-added" and should not replace sound teaching practices already in place. They should be brought in to enhance critical thinking and problem solving lessons. I hope to learn with my students to be innovative and thoughtful global citizens in our new 21st Century world.

Featured Story in The Insider Magazine Nov . 2012

My classroom was the subject of The Insider magazine for employees of Fulton County Schools...

It’s a teacher’s dream.  Imagine being asked what your ideal classroom would look like if you had total control, complete freedom to build it as you wished from the ground up. What would that ideal classroom look like? Now imagine being told by your principal to go and create it. That’s exactly what happened to Susan Fisher at Ridgeview Charter School. Last year she envisioned the perfect classroom. Then she built it. And now she’s living it, along with her students, of course.

the TLF selects 25 participants each school year who  are already innovative users of technology, takes them offsite 7+ full  days, and exposes them to the best thinkers and hands on demos of  integrated instructional technology.                     Fulton Schools has learned  that initiatives that take off are driven by people who exhibit passion  and performance. “We had been offering technology training to all  teachers for years, but it had limited impact back at the schools,”  says Kathy Politis, Director, Instructional Technology at Fulton County  Schools. “Most just put the notebooks back on the shelf after  professional development training, and our connection to those teachers  historically ended there. The TLF is a different  idea, one that  identifies the technology leaders, and brings them into other  leadership roles so they continue to shape our technology throughout  the system.”
