How the Latest Facebook Announcement Will Impact Your Social Media Strategy - Business 2 Community | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Some people love it, some people hate it – and some people love to hate it. Your favorite social network is changing again, and this time for the better. In an announcement last week, Facebook unveiled their new News Feed FYI blog to “highlight major updates to News Feed and explain the thinking behind them.” Did you know that on average every time someone visits their Facebook News Feed, there are on average 1,500 potential posts for them to see? 1,500 – that number includes posts from friends, family, co-workers and business/nonprofit/brand Pages! So how to make sense of all the noise and continually improve the Facebook experience to show you what is most relevant and timely – all tailored to your individual wants and needs?

Furthermore, you have to know what you are going to use. Tell me the truth, aren*t you on Linkedin because your brother or partner opened an account telling to you 'Hey, you should have an account!' ?

Should Leaders Go on Vacation?

Should Leaders Go on Vacation? | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it
When former auto executive Lee Iaccoca titled a book, "Where Have All the Leaders Gone?" he was decrying the sorry state of leadership, not asking about particular places. Currently, the question is more literal and immediate: Where have all the leaders gone on vacation? And when economies are in meltdown, and the vacation places are Tuscany, the Riviera, and Martha's Vineyard, another question is: Should be they be going at all?

Via The People Development Network
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): Going off to have fun can be hard work. But a little forethought can go a long way. So instead of getting sand in your smartphone by trying to multi-task on the beach, use the time to reflect on how to reinvent vacations for a global mobile era.

John Michel's curator insight, July 15, 2013 9:15 AM

The things that leaders choose to do on vacation are an important part of the message they send and one way that their constituencies read their character. Consistency with values is important. That's why politicians who say they want to protect the environment, for example, are better off hiking through national forests than drinking on the sundecks of yachts with foreign lobbyists. If a leader is urging austerity or trying to get a new labor contract, then indulging in obvious luxuries is clearly the wrong thing at the wrong time. Leaders don't have the luxury of a sharp boundary between their public actions and their private lives. Leaders are always on.

Too many people have been disillusioned trying to accommodate SEO+Social Marketing formulas. Formulas based off of reactionary results of an every changing digital ecosystem influenced by proprietary algorithms…What works today won't automatically work tomorrow. It's called evolution folks!

The one truth reinforced by this evolution--Quality content really does matter; your audience is made up of CONSUMERS, be mindful of that, give them something worthy of coming back for.  Knowing your market is knowing you have to invest in the relationship with your audience. Accepting that it's a genuine relationship means you are going to have to invest in maintaining that relationship and communicate effectively.

The digital ecosystem is flourishing with new life, evolving everyday. Treat it as an organic enttity. Know your role and study your surroundings. Then you can create your own organic logic that's capable of evolving daily within the digital ecosystem and yielding you the results you desire.

You need a website. Facebook may not be around forever. You heard it here first.
donhornsby's insight:

(From the article): Social media is obviously a place you want to be, otherwise I probably wouldn’t be talking to you right now. But you need to be there to listen to your audience and find out what they want to know and how you can help. That’s how you get them to learn more about you and take calls to action where you have complete control: your website.

You need your own URL, website, email list, analytics, all of it. A place that you have complete control over what is being displayed so that your audience can’t get shiny object syndrome and bail on the experience you’re trying to guide them through.

Time for a New Definition of SEO

Time for a New Definition of SEO | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

SEO in the digital marketing mix is here to stay. Standardizing a definition of SEO will help buyers better understand the importance of it, the reason for committing to it, and the short- and long-term impact an SEO strategy has on a web presence.

Is Web Presence Optimization the Evolution of SEO?

So what is an accurate description of SEO given the changes to the industry?

Web presence optimization is an all-encompassing approach to optimizing an entire web presence for organic search including the website, social channels, blogs, articles and press releases. Where strategies, techniques, and tactics are still used, but content marketing and social media are strongly incorporated.

I'm not sure I agree with this 100%. I have always focused on quality content before SEO tactics. Now Google thinks this is valid, hooray. It's an interesting pyramid diagram, but I believe places too much emphasis on technical SEO. Quality content wins and Google's SEO modifications now reflect this.

When it comes to social media and its place in your overall SEO / internet marketing strategy, visual social channels like Instagram have been making themselves known as the place to be for target markets across a variety of industries. Instagram is a growing platform with a great deal of direct marketing potential – sometimes your target audience is just an image away! Users on Instagram often single themselves out and identify as members of a target market without even realizing it. This can be seen in the hashtags they use and the accounts they follow and are followed by.

Google Plus Communities | Social Media Today

Google Plus Communities | Social Media Today | Surviving Social Chaos | Scoop.it

Google+ communities are less than a year old but they are becoming an important and powerful feature of Google+. As interest in the social platform has grown so has the number of Google+ communities.

Although you can find more than 100.000 communities on Google+, check out at least those 10 interesting communities recommended by author of this article Steve Rayson.

Ten Google Plus Communities You Should Check Out

The G+ Resource

The G+ Resource is a community that discusses all things Google Plus, as well as related Google services. It is a great place to start to learn more about G+ or to ask questions.

Google Plus Pro Tips

This is great community run by Jesse Wojdylo. This community is focused on getting the most out of your Google+ account. Everyone is very willing to help each other learn every single facet of Google+, and help each other solve any problems that may come up.

Google Authorship and Author Rank

Google Authorship is increasingly important to any content marketing strategy. It allows content creators to connect their content from across the web to their Google+ profiles. This community is the place to keep up to date with developments and news; and to ask questions.

Social Media Professionals

This is a dedicated and active group of moderators keen to make sure this community doesn't turn into a community where there is spam and low engagement. Thus it is a request only community. This community discusses topics related to working in or with social media.

Social Media Strategy

This is a sister community to "Social Media Professionals".  The Social Media Strategy community discusses news and business strategies centered around social media. This goes beyond marketing and can include product life cycle management, customer care, HR, market research, and innovation.

LinkedIn for Business

This community is focused on how businesses can and do use LinkedIn. I am personally convinced that LinkedIn is one of the other key B2B marketing platforms in addition to Google+ so there is lots to learn here.

Content Marketing World

This community is focused around an annual event - Content Marketing World. This takes place in September and brings together the largest global group of marketers and content experts. This community acts a forum for discussion open to all those attended and those interested in content marketing.

Content Marketing and Social Media

There is quite a lot of link sharing in this community and less engagement than some of the others but it is useful for the latest news and posts on content marketing and social media.

SEO and Website Design

This is one of many SEO communities on Google+ and a good place to keep up to date and discuss developments.

Anders Pink B2B Marketing

Finally, this is a community I recently established to explore, share and discuss the latest thinking on B2B marketing with no sales pitches or commercial posts. Anders Pink is a community of B2B marketers and doesn't sell any services. The aim of the community is to curate a set of high quality articles, case studies and resources to support all of us involved in B2B marketing.

But which social networks are leading the way? New data from Gigya has revealed that while Facebook continues to dominate, it faces significant competition from Twitter in the social sharing space, where Google+ hardly registers at all.

Yep. Facebook accounts for some 50 percent of all socially shared content, ahead of Twitter (24 percent) and Pinterest (16 percent). Meanwhile, Google+’s share is a measly 2 percent.
