Froome fronts a strong lineup from Team Sky; and has said of the race that it is ‘exactly the sort of challenge’ that he needs. He has also recently stated that ‘you can’t dwell on disappointment, you have to move on quickly and the Vuelta Espana is the perfect race to focus on.’

Thrilling Spanish cycling is fast approaching, with the world’s elite set to pits their wits against each other in the Vuelta Espana. The UCI World Tour event will provide a spectacular follow up to the Tour de France; and will run from Saturday 23rd August to Sunday 14th September.

I enjoyed some of the imagery and descriptions used by the write of this post.  Here's a sampling: 


For cyclists, the art of the slipstream is everything. Find the back wheel of a generous rider, slide over to sit behind it, and you can be pulled along like a heavy-breathing wagon for miles on end.

In the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 on Sunday, the tactic would be more accurately described as mooring. Anchor yourself to the wheel of a stronger cyclists and you could pedal in their wake for a few minutes relief from the torrent of water fighting against you.

We weren't cycling on Sunday, we were piloting lithe ships against the current.

Daunting charity cycling awaits a dedicated group of 11 Sheffield cyclists this weekend. With the support of 2 drivers, the group are taking on the intimidating ‘Raid Pyrenean’ - a 720km cycling challenge which traverses the French Pyrenees; encompassing 18 cols in the process.

The route sees cyclists journey from Hendaye on the Atlantic coast, to Cerbere on the Mediterranean side – and it requires some serious willpower to complete. The Sheffield group are cycling for The Kings Foundation, a charity which provides sports, activity and life-skills programmes to children in the UK and further afield.
