While the main content provides a good (and often-cited) set of 'myths' and 'realities' about 'global surgery' the analogy with Starbucks, borrowed from a piece by Atul Gawande, is an inappropriate analogy from which to start. Has the author seen a Starbucks in the places where better access to surgical care is needed? There aren't many. (There's a reason for that, but that is a discussion for another day). If he has seen them, he might've noticed that that cost of a starbucks coffee still remains out of reach for a significant number - if not the vast majority - of the people living there. Is this really the best analogy for describing equitable access to high quality health care?
