NMC Horizon Report > 2017 Higher Education Edition | Engaging with learning and teaching in academic libraries | Scoop.it
The NMC Horizon Report > 2017 Higher Education Edition is a collaborative effort between the NMC and the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI). This 14th edition describes annual findings from the NMC Horizon Project, an ongoing research project designed to identify and describe emerging technologies likely to have an impact on learning, teaching, and creative inquiry in education. Six key trends, six significant challenges, and six important developments in educational technology are placed directly in the context of their likely impact on the core missions of universities and colleges. The three key sections of this report constitute a reference and straightforward technology-planning guide for educators, higher education leaders, administrators, policymakers, and technologists. It is our hope that this research will help to inform the choices that institutions are making about technology to improve, support, or extend teaching, learning, and creative inquiry in higher education across the globe. All of the topics were selected by an expert panel that represented a range of backgrounds and perspectives. View the work that produced the report on the official project wiki.

“We are digital!”: what it means to be an academic in the post-digital age – Andrew Middleton | Engaging with learning and teaching in academic libraries | Scoop.it

Drawing upon case studies from current research into innovative academic practice and future learning spaces, Andrew considers our roles as academics in the ‘post-digital’ age. Here the digital is pervasive, technologies are ubiquitous and content is accessible and dynamic. We will consider the digital space not only as an extension to the physical space, but as a dimension of a seamlessly integrated learning world which can liberate and enrich the ways our students and graduates learn, live and work now and into the future.

Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education

Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education | Engaging with learning and teaching in academic libraries | Scoop.it
Higher education is changing dramatically and libraries are changing along with it. We face the common challenge of how to help students develop both a conceptual understanding of the universe of information and a practical understanding of how to locate, manage, use and create information, in the face of diminishing resources, demands for demonstrating student success, and an increasingly complex information landscape Teaching can be a solitary undertaking, and so can learning, but new approaches to teaching and learning show clearly that collaboration – within and across disciplines – can lead to uncovering enduring understandings that lead to deep learning and the emergence of students as creators of information, not just consumers. To complete this learning circle, faculty can look to librarians as partners in the academic mission. The Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, from the Association of College & Research Libraries, takes librarians to the heart of student learning in the classroom, in the curriculum and in the institution.
