Who said supply chains are boring?: 3. Sun Tzu: The Art of Logistics | Sun Tzu | Scoop.it

Whenever I tell a friend, colleague or family member about my job as soon as the words "supply chain" are muttered I immediately see glassy eyes followed by a yawn or two. Little do they realize that every time they discard or recycle a carton of milk they are completing the end of the supply chain cycle. Without supply chains consumers would be stuck using products that they had to make or grow with their own two hands. Still not excited, well visit often and eventually you will be.

Why Marketers Must Read "Counterinsurgency" Field Manual

Why Marketers Must Read "Counterinsurgency" Field Manual | Sun Tzu | Scoop.it

Here's a truly insightful piece by Deloitte Consulting principal Jonathan R. Copulskyin Ad Age. He says that while marketers often look to books by military strategists when it comes to winning in the marketplace, they often miss that war - and marketing - have changed significantly since the days of Sun-Tzu and von Clausewitz.

Instead, Copulskyin says, marketing today has much more like fighting the insurgencies in Iraq and Afghanistan than it does with the clashes of large European land armies.

He suggests CMOs pick up "Counterinsurgency," a military field manual released by the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps. The book, he says, is filled with thoughtful observations and practical advice that apply to today's marketing conflicts.

The Changing Game of Strategy

The Changing Game of Strategy | Sun Tzu | Scoop.it

In Oliver Stone’s classic movie Wall Street, the financier Gordon Gecko schooled his protégé in the aphorisms of Sun Tzu, the ancient Chinese military philosopher.

The point was clear. Business is war, an ancient game with eternal truths and the essence of strategy is a methodical, time-tested approach. Superior planning, matched with flawless execution, is the key to domination of the competitive environment ...

The Art of Project Management: Planning

The Art of Project Management: Planning | Sun Tzu | Scoop.it

“He who exercises no forethought but makes light of his opponents is sure to be captured by them.” - Sun Tzu

In this fifth installment of the Art of Project Management series, I’ll address the importance of planning. By planning, I’m not referring to the multi-thousand-line project plan detailed in the most sophisticated of project and portfolio management tools (it’s really not at all about the tool, anyway).

Continuing the Art of War metaphor, planning refers to the deliberate and well-conceived approach for framing the plan of attack. Without forethought, Sun Tzu warns, one is destined to be consumed by one’s project.

The most definite work on leadership was not written by Donald Trump or Richard Branson. It was written over 2,500 years ago by a Chinese military strategist. Sun Tzu was a Chinese military general, strategist and philosopher born in 544 B.C.and his advice many years ago is every bit as relevant today. Enjoy!

Finding Competitive Intelligence With Social Media

Finding Competitive Intelligence With Social Media | Sun Tzu | Scoop.it

In his classic book focused on military strategy The Art of War, Chinese general Sun Tzu said: "keep your friends close and your enemies closer." This is now more possible than ever -- without subterfuge or spying -- using social media. In most cases you know who your direct competitors are. Sometimes a new challenge springs out and surprises you, but you will usually have an idea of whom your local and international competitors are.
