New Social Content Discovery Platform: Ping.it

New Social Content Discovery Platform: Ping.it | SuiEmpireAvenue | Scoop.it

Giuseppe Mauriello: I received an invitation some hours ago to join into closed beta test of Ping.it (formerly StormDriver).

It is a social content discovery platform that allows people to ping where they are in the Web right now, locate others in real time, and join them on any page.

From About Page:

"Ping.it offers a new way to discover interesting content in a social setting. Instead of leaving updates on social networks, just like notes on a fridge, simply share the experience of discovering content in real time, together. Don’t wait for people to tell you what they’re doing. Instead, take a look at Ping.it and join them on the spot!

With Ping.it you can see what pages others are visiting right now. You can also get pinged about the good stuff they find or ping your own discoveries.

Ping.it is all about the real-time aspect of the Web. Being aware of where your friends are online is one thing. Another is that you can instantly know what’s hot. In Ping.it you can see how many other users are interacting with a page, and if things get interesting you can get notified and join in the fun!

Every ping can be send to a specific topic – and all the people who follow it. This way you will immediately know if a new interesting page was pinged to any topic you follow. You can create your own topics, invite contributors, and together create useful scrapbooks of content. All topics have their own unique URL’s, so that you can share your best collaborations with the outside world.

We use cloud-enhanced browsing in order to let you enjoy your favorite content from within Ping.it. Instead of searching for stuff outside and then reporting on your findings through social networks..."

4 Myths of Social Media Marketing

4 Myths of Social Media Marketing | SuiEmpireAvenue | Scoop.it

"Social media marketing is the shiny new toy. Businesses were provided tools that they could use themselves to promote their business.

Coca Cola changed its marketing strategy from creative excellence to content excellence.

They had realized that social media was able to spread their content and ideas with velocity and the crowd could create and share more stories on social networks than they could ever hope to buy.

The democratization of marketing was now evident.

Here the 4 Myths of Social Media Marketing:

Myth #1. It’s Simple

There are many myths about social media marketing but the biggest one by far is that it is easy and can be done by an intern at lunch time.

Myth #2. It’s Free

Planning , creating content, optimizing for search, publishing to multiple platforms takes time. Time is money.

Enterprise class tools are not free. Participating on Facebook may cost nothing and tweeting is free but the content and eco-sytem to support a sustained social media marketing effort requires budget and commitment. Professional videos still cost money to produce and edit.

Myth #3. It’s Just Facebook

Many organisations think that because Facebook dominates the social media numbers game with nearly one billion users, that it is the only social media network to consider in a social media marketing strategy.

Facebook only allows less than 15% of your updates to appear in your Facebook followers timelines through its “Edge Rank” algorithms.

Myth #4. Social Media is the “Silver Bullet”

Social media is not your marketing saviour.

Remember to continue to optimize your online properties for search engines.

Being found on Google is still a “must do”. If you aren’t doing this then you need to reconsider some of your marketing budget priorities. Social media marketing advertising is still only $5 billion and search engine marketing spend is 10 times larger at $50 billiuon plus because it works".

The ethics of medical tourism

The ethics of medical tourism | SuiEmpireAvenue | Scoop.it

The ethics of medical tourism are coming under scrutiny from academics in the USA. Leigh Turner is an associate professor at the University of Minnesota Center for Bioethics. Turner’s blog, Health in the Global Village, provides regular updates on medical travel and globalization of health care.

This Canadian citizen’s research addresses ethical and social issues related to transnational medical travel and the emergence of a global marketplace in health services, but it makes no mention of the detailed vetting and credentialing done by organizations such as Mercury Healthcare International, that follow strict protocols established by several accrediting bodies, perform primary source verification and negotiate recourse into their provider agreements.

By her own admission, Turner has only been researching medical tourism from a purely academic perspective for the last 5 years - and perhaps has just not been able to perform the exhaustive research into examples available or keep up with  real world examples, at the pace the industry is evolving.
