Proving once again that A-B testing is the key to optimization of direct marketing, this article describes the efforts of the Obama e-mail marketing team.  Unsurpringly, the main takeway is to create Subject lines that get the reader to open the email.  Regrettably, in most cases, the best technique(s) is what spammers have known all along: deceive vs. compel readership.  When one of the winning Subject lines is "Hey" or "Join me for dinner?" and its coming from the Oval Office, something is clearly amiss with the methods.
