How Big Data Is Transforming The Mobile Industry

How Big Data Is Transforming The Mobile Industry | Strategy and Data Analytics | Scoop.it

CIBC, a Canadian bank, predicts that information-generation growth will increase 50 times over the next decade. IDC, a market research firm, similarly forecasts a 44-fold increase in data volumes between 2009 and 2020. Mobile is playing a large part in driving this explosion in data.

Apple upended the electronics business six years ago with the release of the iPhone. The iPhone ushered in an era when design, both of software and hardware, became the paramount concept in the tech world.

By now we all have probably heard of Billy Beane and his Moneyball. The main idea is that as GM of the tightly budgeted Oakland A’s, Beane was tasked with assembling a competitive team while contending with very tight purse strings. So what did he do? He determined a player’s potential fit on the team by examining stats like OBP (on base percentage), spray charts showing what part of the park hitters tend to hit the ball, hot zones that show what part of the strike zone the hitter uses the most for hits, and so on.

Big Brother’s Big Data: 3 Ways The Public Can Benefit | SiliconANGLE | Strategy and Data Analytics | Scoop.it
