Seven Transformations of Leadership

Most developmental psychologists agree that what differentiates leaders is not so much their philosophy of leadership, their personality, or their style of management. Rather, it’s their internal “action logic”—how they interpret their surroundings and react when their power or safety is challenged.

David Hain's comment, August 28, 2013 3:52 AM
The research is based on a sentence-completion survey tool called the Leadership Development Profile. Using this tool, participants are asked to complete 36 sentences that begin with phrases such as “A good leader…,” to which responses vary widely:

“…cracks the whip.”

“…realizes that it’s important to achieve good performance from subordinates.”

“…juggles competing forces and takes responsibility for her decisions.”

By asking participants to complete sentences of this type, it’s possible for highly trained evaluators to paint a picture of how participants interpret their own actions and the world around them; these “pictures” show which one of seven developmental action logics—Opportunist, Diplomat, Expert, Achiever, Individualist, Strategist, or Alchemist—currently functions as a leader’s dominant way of thinking. Leaders can move through these categories as their abilities grow, so taking the Leadership Development Profile again several years later can reveal whether a leader’s action logic has evolved.

Excerpt: "Although the ghost of the Great Man still haunts leadership studies, most of us have recognized by now that successful organizations are the product of distributive, collective, and complementary leadership. The first step in putting together such a team is to identify each member of the team’s personality makeup and leadership style, so that strengths and competences can be matched to particular roles and challenges. Getting this match wrong can bring misery to all concerned and cause considerable damage." Read now the article and identify archetypes.

Think of reading body language as a detective trying to solve a crime. No one piece of evidence on its own is worth much. However, when several pieces of evidence point in the same direction - start paying attention.

Often companies lack innovation as a core capability to help bring ideas as unique solutions for their markets. Investing only in blockbuster ideas is a poor strategy for innovation.

Maria Rachelle's curator insight, November 23, 2013 8:40 PM

Excerpt: "When a new work group forms, people often make snap judgments about who is qualified to lead. If the players don’t already know one another, they tend to afford status to teammates on the basis of factors such as age, gender, race, attractiveness, and rank.  Anyone, the authors say, can achieve higher status and more influence by getting in the right mind-set before engaging with new teammates.

There are three psychological states that can increase the optimism, confidence, and proactive behavior that people associate with leaders: promotion focus (defined as a focus on goals and positive outcomes), happiness, and a feeling of power. And all it takes to help you enter one of these states is a simple five-minute exercise before starting a group task: Write about your ambitions or a time when you felt happy or powerful. The authors report that study subjects who did exactly that were more likely than others to speak up, steer decision making, and be viewed by their teammates as leaders—both in initial group meetings and in follow-up meetings."  Now read more...

Advanced Seismic Warning System - Eric Dollard has method of earthquake prediction needs funds to purchase equipment

Advanced Seismic Warning System - Eric Dollard has method of earthquake prediction needs funds to purchase equipment | Strategic Thinking | Scoop.it

An early Warning system for detection of earthquakes up to 48 hours ahead of time which has the potential to save millions of lives.

On offer to the world is a working advanced seismic detection system capable of predicting earthquake and their tsunami between 18 hours and even several days ahead of time. It is not theory, it has been done in practice.

Right now there is still NO advanced Seismic Warning System available  With a large tsunami event happening every 10 years or so and rising economic costs to disasters mounting close to $trillions there is a need for a project like this. A project with not only the potential to save lives, but save entire economies and livelihoods.

Eric Dollard has improved upon the Alexanderson technology and has applied this knowledge to an Advanced Seismic Warning System, which can detect earthquakes of large magnitude as much as 18 to 48 hours ahead of time.

Eric Dollard has shown earthquakes can be predicted with the right sensitive listening equipment. There is no official effort to predict earthquakes.

Help Eric get the needed equipment together to make this openly available...
