Beerogram

Beerogram | Stereograms | Scoop.it

"This is not a computer generated picture, this is real photograph which works as Magic Eye Stereogram. Unfortunatelly some stickers not aligned properly, I should have used German beer :) LOL" - 3Dimka on Flickr

Andy Giger's insight:

The interesting effect in this one is that the labels appear to hover in front of the bottles, because as neighbouring bottles are rotated slightly, the labels rotate, but the features on the glass (ie the reflections) do not. So the glassy part of the bottles all look (almost) the same despite the rotation and thus appear flat, while the labels have depth.

A Rolling Crone: Before TV & Movies…Stereoviews | Stereograms | Scoop.it

"From the very beginning of photography—the daguerreotype in 1839—photographers have created stereoviews that appear three-dimensional when seen through a viewer." - You don't actually need a viewer to see the 3D... ; )

Diableries, Stereoscopic Adventures in Hell by Denis Pellerin, Brian May, Paula Fleming

Diableries, Stereoscopic Adventures in Hell by Denis Pellerin, Brian May, Paula Fleming | Stereograms | Scoop.it

The London Stereoscopic Company web site is a resource site for stereo photographs from a different era.

"Some time in 1854, at 313 Oxford Street, the “London Stereoscope Company” was born, and under the leadership of Managing Partner George Swan Nottage, by 1856 the company had changed its name, to “The London Stereoscopic Company”, and finally in May 1859 assumed the name it was to retain for years to come: the “London Stereoscopic and Photographic Company”.

Their business was selling stereo views and viewers to the public, and they were leaders in a boom – a craze - which swept England, Europe, and eventually the United States too, of stereo photographs of every conceivable subject, which, viewed by means of a stereoscope, presented scenes in life-like three dimensions. In a world which had never experienced Television, the Movies, or the Internet, this was understandably a revelation. In February 1856, the London Stereoscopic Company (LSC) advertised, in the Photographic Journal, “The largest collection in Europe, upwards of 10,000” stereo views."

Andy Giger's insight:

These stereo pairs are a bit hard to fuse by divergent viewing. Try zooming out on your browser, fuse the stereogram, then slowly zoom in at least partially while seeing it in 3D.

Or download and edit the image to switch the sides and view it cross-eyed...

Android app review: AutoReader 3D for reading in 3D stereo

Android app review: AutoReader 3D for reading in 3D stereo | Stereograms | Scoop.it

"The developers claim that reading in stereo is beneficial to the eyes as it relaxes the external eye muscles and helps the eyes focus together as a binocular pair." That is quite a dubious claim, since fusing stereograms can be quite strenuous, and avoiding to turn your head even slightly for prolonged periods must give you a stiff neck... And what 3D is there to see in flat text anyway? But maybe this app is wort a try just for the fun of it....
