The U.S. is suffering from a shortage of applicants in the science, technology, engineering and math fields -- or STEM. This is especially true for non-Asian minorities and low-income students, who are statistically less likely to be exposed to STEM professionals, have access to STEM education and hold STEM jobs. According to a recent study by Change the Equation, a non-profit initiative to improve STEM education in the United States, there are two job openings for every unemployed STEM professional.

This ad features several teenage girls talking about their hopes to be innovators in STEM, and of course some product placement for the Microsoft HoloLens and Surface. Then the girls are told how few women graduate with STEM degrees, prompting them to repeat their determination to pursue their goals

Nice to see what Microsoft is doing to promote STEM careers for women. I wish this effort would be ongoing and not just meant for a campaign.

BBC Children's and BBC Learning will be putting a heavy emphasis on technology and coding this season, with Nina and the Neurons learning about 3D printing....As England launches a new computing curriculum, the BBC has added a computer science focus to their free online study support resource, Bitesize, with new guides geared to teach tech with rich animation, graphics, videos, and games. On top of the online curriculum, the channel will be airing several programs that emphasize computer education. Appsolute Genius on CBBC will feature Dick and Dom, who will challenge viewers to design and build their own video game app. Technobabble is another show that will air on CBBC, in which Frankie Vu and Clara Amfu will direct viewers’ attentions to tech applications in the real world, including 3D printing and virtual reality.
