Find Any Type of Creative Commons Licensed Content with Let's CC

Find Any Type of Creative Commons Licensed Content with Let's CC | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

Robin Good: Let's CC is a specialized search engine that can find any image, sounds, video or text that has been published under a Creative Commons license and is available for re-use.

Free to use.

Very useful. 8/10

 Try it out now: http://eng.letscc.net/ ;

***** Just thinking about how to be more deligent about attribution today and thinking how hard that was going to be to do when I saw Robin's latest great find. Most curators know they can easily change their visual presentation for many things without losing any punch or value, so if it is easy to do the right thing (vis a vis attribution) we do it. If it is hard we may still do the right thing, but chance go down. This cool tool from Robin may solve the problem Can't wait to try and see. Marty

BREAKING - Google ‘Parks’ Domains by Mistake & Marty's $10K Secret

BREAKING - Google ‘Parks’ Domains by Mistake & Marty's $10K Secret | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it
Matt Cutts clarifies the error that has caused major fluctuations in Google rankings this week.

...
***** Marty's $10,000 Secret - Never Point Parked Domains At Active Ones

Spending a week in Mill Valley, CA listening to SEO Guru Bruce Clay was instructive and helped make me the Internet marketer I am (for good or ill LOL). That week cost upwards of $10k (tuition, long flight, hotel, food and time out of office). One lesson that stuck was NEVER point parked domains to active ones especially not active domains you CARE about. I thought, wrongly, the potential keyword juice from a parked domain could help the core.

Nope, not only is there NO benefit because of how Google classifies domains, but you place the crown jewels, your active domain, at risk when doing so. Clay recommended creating a closed loop ring and pointing domains at the least important URL being held. That way if the domain receiving the pointed to links is banned as spam nothing bad happens to active domains or other domains you will get to someday.

Thre real learning here is don't buy parked domains if you are an active ecommerce company. All the good ones are gone anyway (said by someone who bought a domain today), so consider holding or buying fewer junk domains and if, like in my old job as Director of Ecommerce, you own thousands of domains mostly to prevent others from owning them NEVER point any of them to something you care about.

Landing Pages That Sell

Landing Pages That Sell | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

Two factors, taken from the structure of Hollywood blockbusters, can work together to make all the difference in building landing pages that sell.

**** Put this scoop in Startups because if a startup can do NOTHING else online other than have 40 great landing pages faced up against the right (or even close to right) keywords life can be good. The web is really no more complicated that that and yest great landing pages can be complicated (why I suggested 40 so 5 might rock). Marty

Use Your Feeds To Create Pinterest-Like Magazine With Feeed

Use Your Feeds To Create Pinterest-Like Magazine With Feeed | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it
**** Cool and beautiful aggregator for feeds like Scoop.it but for your feeds. Great idea and what I thoughtvFlipboard would be. Marty

Robin Good: Feeed is a simple and elegant web-service which allows you to easily create a Pinterest-like visual magazine by aggregating any number of blogs or RSS feeds.

Just input the URL of your blog, Twitter channel, and any other site or feed you may want to include (up to 8) and Feeed will automatically aggregate and display all of the incoming content into a neat visual page.

"Take everything you like to read – blogs, news, art and more – and get it all delivered to a site designed especially for you, by you."

Feeed.co can also be utilized as your personal news dashboard by making it easier for you to check and monitor your favorite RSS feeds on Feeed visual display. It is possible to see both all of the feeds aggregated into one as well as any individual feed alone.

The basic service is free to use and the Plus version costing $39/year allows you to:
a) add up to 40 feeds,

b) use your own domain name,

c) mix'n'match colors to make your own custom theme, and

d) mark items as favorites

Example: http://robingood.feeed.co/

Twitter Curation From Within WordPress: Dashter

Robin Good: If you are searching for a way to curate Twitter content from within WordPress, this new plugin called Dashter provides all you may be seeking and a lot more.

Key features include:

1) LISTEN to real-time conversations and tweets on Twitter, with an ear towards listening for topics & conversations that are related to the content you post on your website. Filter out the noise and use Dashter’s listening tools to discover tweets that matter to you.

- You can control your entire Twitter account from within your WordPress dashboard;

- View trends in your social circles, use your content as a springboard for searches, and stay connected with your lists;

- Reply, ReTweet, Quote, Favorite, and all your favorite Twitter actions are available throughout your blog. Listen in on any search, list, or hashtag – or just explore.

- Unlimited listening posts in the stream.

http://dashter.com/tour/listen/

2) CURATE with Dashter by utilizing its own set of collecting, organizing, and creating fresh content tools. Unlike third-party “curation” tools – the curated content originates on your domain and from your website, and not from your curation service web site.

- When you curate a tweet using Dashter, not only is the tweet content pulled in to your post, but we also import the people who were included.

- Dashter will automatically import any #hashtags from the tweets you curate as WordPress tags.

- Curated Tweets can be embedded using basic formatting, the Twitter Embed method, or using the popular Blackbird Pie plugin.

- Unlike other curation tools on the market, Dashter focuses on driving traffic back to your website.

http://dashter.com/tour/curate/

3) CULTIVATE social relationships on Twitter with far greater depth and precision than ever before.

- Targeted interaction;

- Dashter shows you not only the latest connections but the most substantial ones – giving you insight and intelligence ahead of any social engagement.

http://dashter.com/tour/cultivate/

4) AMPLIFY your site’s social reach.

Dashter includes a built-in social scheduler to help ensure the broadest reach possible.

Knowing What You Don't Know Before It Crushes You - Customer CQS

Knowing What You Don't Know Before It Crushes You - Customer CQS | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

Atlantic BT, Raleigh web developers and Internet marketers, have created a new project management tool called CQS.

***** My boss, entrepreneur Jon Jordan, created this very cool idea based on Net Promoter Score (NPS) for tracking quality through the lifecycle of a project. Now all we need to do is gamify Continuous Quality Score (CQS) to make it fun and insure all our customers "play" every week and we will have a new, cool, organic metric for our web development and Internet marketing health across our customers, projects and time. Great to work for a genius :). Marty

Gumroad Sells So Artists Can Create | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it

***** Cool new startup aims to help artists create, what they do best, instead of selling stuff which the do poorly if at all. I started a company called FoundObjects.com in 1993 to help artists sell their ideas as cool gifts. This startup looks cool and, now that FoundObjects.com only exists in the archive, I wish them nothing but the best since there is a real need (as Etsy.com has more than proven). Marty

Think Like a Start-Up

Think Like a Start-Up | Startup Revolution | Scoop.it
I've worked for big companies and started four. Itis my experience trying to create something from nothing that most resonates and is real vent to my current job as Director Marketing for Atlantic Business Technologies. Thinking like a startup is something I try to do daily :). Marty

I’ve been fascinated with startup culture for a long time and as I considered all the changes happening in academic libraries (and higher ed) the parallels were quite stunning. No, we’re not developing new products to bring to market, and no, we’re not striving for an IPO payday, but we are being required to rethink/rebuild/repurpose what a library is and what it does. The next twenty years are going to be an interestingly chaotic time for the history of our institutions.
