Visual Deception

VISUAL DECEPTION is so prevelent on our society that we don't recognize it any more.  Our visual world has gotten so distorted, that we cannot distinguish the difference any more.  Dove ran a compain that exposed some of the tricks used to deceive our vision of beauty, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omBfg3UwkYM.

Visual Deception is an artform to many.  People pay to see magicians use slight of hand to deceive them.  Everything is based on distracting people visually with one thing, while they do something else with the other hand.

Children/Family Lying

Children/Family Lying | Spotting Lies | Scoop.it

When parents lie to their CHILDREN/FAMILY it's usually to teach a lesson.  Ironically enough many of those lies are sneakily trying to teach children to tell the truth.  Parents often lie about reality to dumb it down to their level.  Children are told that truth telling will produce better results, when in fact many times the real world works directly opposite to that teaching.

Detecting Deception

DETECTING DECEPTION in someone's voice is possible if one knows what to listen for.  Dr. Lillian Glass, in her video http://www.mahalo.com/how-to-tell-if-someone-is-lying-voice/, discusses tell tale signs that could give away a liar's nervousness.  A person's throat could react to nervousness, making it dry or hard to talk.

Deceiving

DECEIVING in its best form takes meditated planning.  Perposely misleading someone distracts them from the truth.  As demostrated in The Love Bug http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqLIGpRCH0U&feature=related, Herbie's chief rival constantly tried to win at all costs.  The deceiption at 1.22 minutes in the clip represents a prime example.  Not only did the rival misdirect Herbie and his drivers; he deceived every driver in the race to take a wrong turn.

Games

Games | Spotting Lies | Scoop.it

GAMES are one of the few acceptable forms of lying in our society.  Trickery is expected for personal benefit in a game of chess, sorry, battleship, or poker.  We learn to put on a poker face, and find the chinks in someone else's.

Ethics

BBC published an article on the ETHICS of lying (http://www.bbc.co.uk/ethics/lying/lying_1.shtml).  Our society places so much value on telling the truth, that we have convinced ourselves that we always tell the truth.  Yet, when directly asked, most people will come up with exceptions to the rule, and admit to lying for a "good" reason.  Telling the truth is always a good thing to do, yet conveniently for us, lying for a good cause is also a "good" thing to do.

Nonverbal Detecting Deception

Nonverbal Detecting Deception | Spotting Lies | Scoop.it

The chances of NonVERBAL DETECTING DECEPTION is greatly increased if one knows what to look for.  Nervous, uncontrolled reactions are tell tale signs that someone is trying to hide something.  Sweat, inconsistent facial/emotion patterns, and hiding part of the face as to not give away an emotion are all clues that someone is not being completely honest and masking unspoken feelings.

Truth Telling

Truth Telling | Spotting Lies | Scoop.it

TRUTH TELLING is not as simple as it sounds.  The truth requires perfection in honesty, detail, and emotion.  No one can fully achieve that nor would they want to.  In every action, whether spoken or silent, an underlying motive is the driving force.  We could be nice and say uncertainty, blemishes, fragments, and misrepresentations mare absolute truth.  Honesty, however, admits the cover of truth is made up of lies.
