In the late 90's and 00's right holders were selling everything they could to obtain more money. This is when the Stadium Naming and sponsoring came into play. Also official partners came in they would help the team or stadium out financially.

In the past it has always been about the emotion of the fans through sports marketing and connecting with the consumers through emotions. In 2012 the london Olympics was the most branded and sponsored olympics ever.

Trending into the future the sports marketing industry will continue to grow as each major sports event occurs the branding and sponsors become more and more and the competition and price continues to go up. The industry will grow as the years progress

The future of sports marketing will continue to grow but it will only grow as far as Sports grow. This will be decided on what "Role sports play in society" and how popular they are.

in the future once players salaries can no longer get bigger they will look for endorsements and more and more branding will occur with more and more big time athletes entering the pro industry and want to make more money then what the salary caps allow them to make.
