NFL decade-low attendance inspires new TV blackout rules | newjerseynewsroom.com

NFL decade-low attendance inspires new TV blackout rules | newjerseynewsroom.com | sports facility subsidies | Scoop.it

America’s most popular sport has experienced a noticeable setback in attendance.  Recent years have brought a steady decline in average NFL attendance.  In fact, 2011 marked the lowest average attendance the NFL has seen since 1998. Meanwhile, the NFL and its teams are weighing options to persuade fans to attend games.  There are many challenges to overcome.  Traffic and parking are issues at Met Life stadium and just about any stadium across the country.  The lines are long at rest rooms and at concession stands, which tend to serve overpriced, fat-laden foods.  "TV time outs" seem longer in person.

October is breast cancer awareness month, Each NFL team will plan a special event to create awareness.  Events will remember those who lost the battle to breast cancer and celebrate survivors and those still fighting this deadly disease.  Players, referees and cheerleaders will be in uniforms that have some element of pink.  Licensees provide gloves, cleats, footballs, towels, and other items in pink or with the pink ribbon to be used during the game.  NFL partners of the campaign offer promotions and raise money through cause marketing initiatives.  Fans can purchase NFL and team “pink” gear.  The proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

What benefits are associated with living near a sports stadium?

andrew schwartz's curator insight, October 6, 2014 4:12 PM

This article is about deciding where a good place to build a stadium would be.  The conversation is around whether businesses will crop up, and whether building a stadium will bring money to an area.  In the opinion of this author, stadiums and arenas don’t bring business to areas where they are built, and can be bad neighbors bringing traffic, and noise.

Indoor Sports Facilities Management in the US Industry Market Research Report Now Available from IBISWorld | Rebound

Indoor Sports Facilities Management in the US Industry Market Research Report Now Available from IBISWorld | Rebound | sports facility subsidies | Scoop.it

The Indoor Sports Facilities Management industry escaped the recession relatively unscathed compared with other industries in the leisure sector. Over the five years to 2012, IBISWorld estimates industry revenue grew at a 0.1% average annual rate, including 1.5% growth in 2012 to about $  780.4 million. The industry did contract 4.0% in 2008 and 0.2% as wary consumers curtailed spending on higher priced recreation activities at ice rinks and swimming complexes, but demand for indoor sports facilities rebounded quickly as consumers increasingly perceived industry team sport services as a necessary health and social expense
