We had heard that the level of physical preparedness and training in the Air Force was rigorous, but it's really shocking to see just how intense things can get.

Mike Horne's insight:

This is a great taser video that shows the immeadiate effect it has on an individual.  It is also effecting us at work because of her reaction to being tased.  Facility managers must remind their employees that there are always cameras running and they must act accordingly.

Mike Horne's insight:

Facility managers must encourage ideas like this.  There are so many entertainent options available today.  Minimizing the costs of tickets and providing low cost options make your venue a legitimate option for entertainment.

Mike Horne's insight:

Who knew NASCAR was on the green wagon.  This video states they recycle over five million bottles and cans a year and are using renewable energy for their broadcasts.  For a sport that doesn't seem to show much regard for the planet it's good to see at least the venues and supporting sponsers are doing something positive.

Mike Horne's insight:

Green cleaning supplies is important to the whole city.  Using safer more environmentally friendly chemicals is healthy for everyone and easier on the treatment plants in a city.  Responsible facility managers should pay attention to the products used to clean their venues.

Crowd Control - Stun Guns Increasingly Used at Sporting Events

Crowd Control - Stun Guns Increasingly Used at Sporting Events | Sports Facility Management 3065819 | Scoop.it
Security officers are increasingly using stun guns to maintain order at sporting events, but are they taking crowd control too far?

Via Keenan Copp
Mike Horne's insight:

I added this one simply because I enjoy tasers and seeing people being tased.  It's a fairly safe way to control someone and de-escalate a bad situation without hurting the people around them.  As with anything, there is a liability issue that the facility staff will have to deal with if used incorrectly.

Keenan Copp's curator insight, September 20, 2013 11:07 AM

This article could tie into both facility crowd control and security, it covers some situations were a taser was used on fans at past sporting events. There seems to be a bit of mixed feelings on the necessity of a stun gun for event security, and it also covers a case in which a fan suied over the use of the stun gun. Due to the fan suing, the idea of stun guns in a facilit could also be something that would come up when discussing risk management.

This article shows a way that can control crowds and possibly deter future disruptions

Stadium Security Professionals Urged to Remain Diligent

Stadium Security Professionals Urged to Remain Diligent | Sports Facility Management 3065819 | Scoop.it
It hasn't happened. By due diligence or pure luck, no major outdoor spectator venue in the United States has experienced a significant security breach — much less an act of premeditated, catastrophic terrorism — in the decade since the Sept.

Via Matthew Hubbard
Mike Horne's insight:

This one hits home for me.  I've volunteered at numerous venues around the country to assist with crowd control and security from the NBA Allstar game to a George Strait concert and I have seen complacency that has the potential to get a lot of people hurt or killed.  Everyone needs to remember there are peope out there that hate us and want to kill us.  If you manage a facility that attracts large crowds of people, remember those people rely on you to keep them safe and take an active part in their security.
