It is all about how you play the game rather than focusing on winning or losing. Tampa Bay played through the game until it ended while the New York Giants made assumption that they were going to win.

Mz Mississippi's curator insight, September 6, 2013 9:15 PM

As a coach you always teach players to play until you hear a whistle or the horn blows. The Gaints my think that it was a cheap shot but their coach should have had them prepare for anything. I wonder did they learn from that mistake?

Legal and Ethical Responsibilities of a Coach

How many career options can provide the excitement, challenges and satisfaction of coaching? Coaches at all levels experience the pleasure of watching young people develop sport skills and contribute to successful teams. However, coaches also have important legal and ethical obligations to their schools and their athletes. Many of these obligations or responsibilities are natural extensions of the mission and goals of the high school athletic program. Others are defined legally or are expectations of society for a “teacher” in a school activity.

Jason Cain

Coaches must adhere to legal and ethical responsibilities within the profession. These responsibilities are outlined through certification classes. All coaches must keep athletes safe both physically and emotionally and these standard that they must follow are outlined in the National Association for Sport Physical Education. A coach needs to be a role model for athletes under his or her care.

Renee Seruntine's curator insight, May 14, 2014 3:53 PM

Legal and ethical obligations play an important role in how a coach will teach his or her players.

Dillon Fury's curator insight, September 10, 2014 12:44 PM

There's a lot of weight resting on the shoulders of a coach. They are to make good ethical decisions for their players and themselves.

More often than not, there are more instances that high school coaches care more about winning. But we see that trend is turning away from that and more care is taken with the players and teaching life lessons is becoming the new gameplan

Matthew Sosby's curator insight, July 17, 2016 4:08 PM

Coaching youth sports is chock full of times where our personal and professional ethics are put to a premium.  How we present ourselves to the youth can provide a positive impact on their lives.
