Renee Anne Shirley's curator insight, January 19, 2014 12:35 PM

IMO athletes believe that the odds of getting caught cheating are significantly less than the rewards to be gained from doping...until we can lessen the odds we will continue to lose the war! In this video Prof Arne Ljungqvist provides insights into some high-profile doping scandals, including the Ben Johnson scandal and Balco affair.

Donald Magnuson's curator insight, January 19, 2014 2:43 PM

Despite several high profile cases in the last few years, it is clear that athletes are still willing to risk their careers for the artificial gains from doping and steroids.  Stepping outside the rules for a competitive advantage raises ethical questions for the athletes, their trainers and coaches, and even national team officials and politicians, who see athletic success as proving national superiority.

Jason Hammel's curator insight, May 9, 2015 12:43 PM

No matter the punishment professional athletes continue to take the risk with steroids and other performance enhancing drugs

Prescribing Rights in Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy

Prescribing Rights in Physiotherapy and Physical Therapy | Sports Ethics: Cornwell, B. | Scoop.it

Recent developments in the extended scope of the physiotherapist and physical therapist are moving towards prescribing rights for our profession.  Following a lengthy campaigning by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) in July 2012 in a ground-breaking change to their role Physiotherapists in the UK were given new responsibilities to independently prescribe medicines to their patients.

This article exposes readers to the expanding responsibilities and abilities of physical therapists. Physical therapists may eventually have the knowledge and ability to prescribe medication to their patients. They must use ethical judgment to properly medicate their patients.

brandon hockenbarger's curator insight, April 26, 2015 1:00 AM

The title is pretty self explanatory, however this is still a good article to read about if physical therapist should have the same prescribing right as other physicians.

Jon J.'s curator insight, March 17, 2013 11:17 AM

A lack of evidence exists to support EPO doping provides an advantage to elite athletes.  Preliminary studies only indicate the probability of harm to users.  Does Lance deserve to keep his medals following this controversial report or is the intent to gain an unfair advantage enough to merit stripping his medals?
