Entrepreneurship Is a Team Sport

Entrepreneurship Is a Team Sport | Sports Entrepreneurship - Quest 4298306 | Scoop.it
The co-founder and CMO of Staff.com on why entrepreneurship is a team sport--and why start-up founders need real lives, too.

Via Andrew Carver
Patrick Quest's insight:

This is a great article for all entrepreneurs, novice or expert, to evaluate what a successful leader or entrepreneur does.  For true success of a company or idea, you can not do all the jobs of a company or business.  You must find co-workers that you trust and are good at the things you are not.  You must see the big picture and long term goal, but you must have detailed short term goals figured out before you look too far into the future.  Do not let your business take complete control of your life..  Yes, invest and work hard, but also have other interest to keep your mind fresh and ready to seize the next big opportunity.

Entrepreneurship for Athletes: The Magic Formula | RULING SPORTS | Sports Entrepreneurship - Quest 4298306 | Scoop.it
By: Todd Burach, Ruling Sports Contributor (Twitter: @ToddBurach) For many reasons, a vast majority of professional athletes struggle to manage the lucrative financial rewards of their playing careers.
Patrick Quest's insight:

Alicia's article about athletes and entrepreneurs is interesting and very informative.  Professional athletes sign and play for these lucrative contracts and unwisely make poor investment decisions.  Without proper instruction or teaching, like Magic Johnson, athletes need to invest in other avenues and try not to be an entrepreneur too.

Do Corporate Postions Prepare You For Entrepreneurship?

Do Corporate Postions Prepare You For Entrepreneurship? | Sports Entrepreneurship - Quest 4298306 | Scoop.it
Today I reached into the mailbag: Hey Dan, What should I be looking for in terms of skills and training that are transferable to being an entrepreneur? Do you think ... It hurts a little. But at the end of the day, it's a different sport.
Patrick Quest's insight:

I agree with most of what Dan is saying.  It is important to get on with a company that is small, but has potential to grow not only in employees, but financially.  Working in a small business, an entrepreneur can learn vital aspects about running and directing a company.  I disagree with Dan and believe that a "liberal arts" degree helps you to think "outside of the box" and that is what an entrepreneur does.  The next step is putting that idea or plan into place, using what you learned from previous work experiences whether a small comparnt or corportate company.

Practice learning as an action sport. Entrepreneurs who depend on the 'traditional' learning process (schools, formal classes, practice problems, and risk-free iterations) are doomed in breaking the paradigm.
Patrick Quest's insight:

This is a great article for all entrepreneur and/or leaders to read.  It is always important to learn from those who came before you, whether successful or not.   "Bounce your visions/ideas off people who have come before you."  Follow these eight suggestions, but also be willing to ask for advice and/or suggestions.
