Even though there is actually no formal requirements for becoming a sports agent, it is highly recommended and virtually needed to have at least a bachelor's degree. This article also says that because a lot of work for agents involve legal and financial matters, many agents do indeed have some type of degree in law, finance, accounting, and sports marketing. Aspiring lawyers are also recommended to go to law school after they finish college.

This article as well as other articles that most agents have played sports before and throughout their chilhood, and that is how they get attached to their sport and want to have a job around that sport for the rest of their lives. Another interesting fact from this article is that there are starting to become more female agents now and the number is increasing every year.

The world of the sports agent is already incredibly large, it is growing, and it is a competitive field to try to get a job in because of the want for the job's growing numbers in upcomers every year.

SFGate MLB hopes for new drug deal this week Penn Live People familiar with the negotiations tell The Associated Press that baseball players and management hope to reach a new drug agreement this week that would increase initial penalties for...
Jamel Jackson's insight:

I chose to scoop this because it informs me of what man is going with management in the MLB today. Also because it shows how the rules of the MLB for drugs not only affects the players but their managers as well. Because would the players are penalized for using muscle inhansing drugs then it they are affecting their image which is what most indorsmints look at. This affects the agents salary and the contracts that they are able to settle for the players.

You sum up this website perfectly, not missing any key information that is critical when learning about the profession of sports agency. There are five sections to the information on the job. The first is the pros and cons, which you stated in your precis. The second segment is the career information, which displays the general info of the job, such as the description, salary, etc. Of course, you already stated this above. Next are the requirements. The website does a good job of letting the reader know that not every joe schmo can become a sports agent in professional sports. The job requires a ton of work, patience, skills, and determination. As you said, there are degrees required, and experience majoring in the vicinity is recommended for college students who aspire to become sports agents. Later comes the maximizing your skills section. In this part, the website wisely recommends the reader to pursue the education to a higher level past college. The next section is labelled Alternatives, which is basically saying the job isn't meant for everyone, and that if it isn't working for you, let it be. Overall, your analysis seems to be spot on. The only disagreement I have with your work is on your final sentence. People can have many alternatives, but they will eventually choose just one.
David Monaco's curator insight, October 11, 2013 3:21 PM

A sports agent has a lot on his plate and has many things that need to be done . If someone wants to be a successful sports agent, they have to be up to the challenges to help their client and meet their needs. Sports agents have many different elements of their job that needs attention. Agents have to work many long hours and need to be very intelligent and know much about the field they are going into. The agent has to always be on call and ready for many different scenarios that could be great to devastating. The sports industry is a very tough business that could result in an athletes injury or a contract reduction based on performance and importance to the team, which could call for many changes to the agents role.

Ryan Walsh's curator insight, October 14, 2014 8:15 PM

I learned that in order to become a sports agent, people must be very confident, be able to negotiate, and be able to handle a lot of stress. Sports agents travel all the time and their work schedule is never consistent. The best way to make yourself stand out in this industry is a higher education and gaining an advanced degree.

What I found interesting was that I didn’t know exactly how competitive this field actually was. The field is projected to grow 14% between 2010 and 2020 creating roughly 3,400 new jobs. Also I did not know that you must register to become a practicing athlete agent who works with students.

I selected the article because this has always been my dream job and I wanted to know the steps on how to become successful in the field.

This information will help me because all the steps to become a sports agent were covered in the article. All the requirements were listed and explained and gives me an idea on how to make myself stand out when I get involved in this career path.
