I'm having conversations with someone that has developed one of these types. Can't wait to give it a spin later this year.

A great article on sports parenting!

Jackson Hoffman's curator insight, October 14, 2014 7:42 PM

1. What did you learn? I learned that it is suggested that kids play sports that do not require any equipment such as bats for baseball in order to develop coordination.

2. What information did you find interesting and educational? I found it interesting when it said to let kids just play and not keep score since when I was young I was always trying to be competitive and keep score in order to improve my abilities.

3. Why did you select the article? I selected the article since I wanted to see what approaches were being taken by parents, and how they could change their tactics in order to make it even more successful.

4. How will this information help you in the sport management industry? This will help me in the industry since I will understand what is going through the mind of the parents, and I will be able to make sports as fun as possible for kids in events if I am an event manager.

Mike Margolies's curator insight, May 8, 2014 12:32 PM

I appreciate much about this post, though I will disagree with the emphasis. By categorizing what we do as mental health services instead of focusing on mental skills he helps perpetuate the issues he is trying to alleviate. If we were to provide athletes to handle the challenges and pressures of sport, rather than helping them avoid mental health issues we would in essence accomplish the same goals. By referring to things as a mental health issue he helps distance sport psychology away from many who simply need a new skill.
