Despite what many people believe, professional sports venues typically do not spur large-scale economic activity.

Amanda Mueller's curator insight, October 23, 2013 6:24 PM

"The typical economic impact study gathers data on all aspects of spending related to a stadium, including the money spent to build it and the money spent by fans in connection with the stadium (including on tickets, at restaurants, and at hotels). The impact of this spending ripples outward into other areas of the economy through a multiplier. By linking spending to employment, the study then calculates how many jobs a stadium has created. It does not perform a cost-benefit analysis, which would address the opportunity costs of raising taxes to pay for a stadium and consider alternative uses of those funds."

"Yet in the business of sports, the perception of food is primarily that of a revenue source. That never made any sense to me, because here you are, you’re in the business of entertaining people, and if there’s one thing you have at your disposal that can completely seal that deal every time regardless of how well anybody plays on the field, it’s food.”

Cam Gravina's curator insight, November 6, 2013 11:01 PM

1. What I learned was how important food is to the sports industry.

2.What I found intresting was how it was New haven pizza and I grew up with new haven pizza becasue I am from CT.

3.I selected this article becasue I love food and sports and thought it would be a great read.

4.This greatly impacts sports industry becasue it is just another seller for your company.I think it is important to have good food at sporting events becasue you need us much money as possible to keep your busniness runnng.

David Foster's curator insight, April 27, 2015 7:26 AM

Concessions are one of the most important aspects of a sports venue. If a sports team has poor food quality it will definitely have an adverse effect on the attendance.

I absolutely love this idea, reason being that it will save Americans money by going green. The more engery we conserve, the money in our wallets, the more we recycle the less we have to put out for new bottles and other things of that nature. Going green is the way to go!

Joseph Brandt Miller's curator insight, November 11, 2013 10:44 AM

I feel that it is at a good pace right now, because in example, if someone from the croud breaks out in the middle of a football game the player could hospitalize a croud member without meaning to. When you have an athlete of that caliaber "in the zone" you dont want to get in his/her way because they will do damage to you just by thinking you are another player.

Jason Cain's curator insight, March 22, 2014 10:37 PM

This is a popular article on how far security officers have taken the issue of security at a major event. Is this taking it too far. I believe so. There are other ways to maintain a crowd.

This article outlines some of the common tools and recommendations in the industry and also argues against such use of violent measures.

Kevin Porter's curator insight, February 21, 2014 2:21 PM

New rules and regulations adopted by the NFL are being enforced around the league.  One of the big changes is the bag policy at the stadium.  I personally attended a NFL game at the Broncos stadium in 2013, and I was permitted to bring my black backpack in the stadium with me.  I would no longer be able to do that if I went to a game this past season.  Clear bags are the only kind permitted at the stadium.  This is a result of the Boston Marathon bombing.
