This article relates to Half the Sky because they both speak of the poverty rates not being able to go down without gender equality leveling out. This reminds me of what Bill Gates spoke about Saudi Arabia not being able to rise to their full potential if they don't use but half of their brain power (meaning women's intellectual ability).

This is a great article about how women don't have a lot of power in the world. It shows how in movie business, males still have the upper hand. This also highlights some of the most influential women in the movie business, film makers, directors, editors or characters, they are making little impact but still rising none the less.

This article explains and shows the gender discrimination in hollywood. It tells you how women come second to men in the entertainment business when trying to receive a job in hollywood.
Maddie Morris's curator insight, May 8, 2014 12:39 PM

Even in movies women are being portrait as lesser humans. They are shown as needing men to survive and having to rely on men.

Jacob Cooney's curator insight, May 7, 2014 10:01 PM

This article is interesting to me (and therefore attracted me because of this) because it shows the real situation in countries (in this case Iran) that say they are improving gender equality, but really aren't.

sydneyncollins's curator insight, May 7, 2014 10:50 PM

I chose this article because several countries state that they are attempting to mandate laws and help promote gender yet it is not enough to create total equality. For example in Iran laws have been made to help promote equality for women yet, in a press conference for the new president who is a supporter of equality, women journalists are sitting on the floor while men are seated in chairs.

Daniel Nunez's curator insight, May 8, 2014 12:13 PM

This article shows that women in Iran that are politics are shown different moralities because they are only allowed to sit on the floor during meetings and discussions. The women are physically inferior to the men in the congress and is shown by the level that they are seen as. The women are in congress but they don't really have any voice because they are on the ground unable to do as much as the men

Daniel Nunez's curator insight, May 8, 2014 12:09 PM

This article emphasizes on that women suffer both emotionally and physically from gender inequality. Most women are beat by their boyfriends or husbands and can do nothing to control it. This related to the Half the sky Excerpt because the women in the article told about being beaten for reasons that they could not control. Women suffer health issues because of the beatings and abuse.
