DEWEY BEACH — Starboard owner Steve Montgomery has announced the 2015 Dewey Winter Gala has been cancelled.

Montgomery cited a recently instituted policy by Dewey Beach Town Manager Marc Appelbaum to not accept donations directly earmarked for the police department by town businesses as one of the reasons for canceling the event.

An annual fundraiser that benefits nearly 600 Arkansas nonprofit organizations has already raised more than $2 million Thursday, with hours to go before the day of giving ends.

Jessica Szenher, spokesman for the Arkansas Community Foundation, said she expects Arkansas Gives in its second year to raise at least $2 million more than it did in 2015.

Monarch K-8 teachers are doing laps around the school with buckets of water each week, students are reading about water and the halls are decorated with water drops that list facts.

The Louisville school is all about water as it prepares for its inaugural water walk on Friday. The idea was developed by kindergarten teacher Alison Adams, who's on a school "connections" committee.

Local artists also donated various other pieces of artwork for the charity.

More than 750 people attended this years event and the grand total of money raised is expected to be more than $100,000, the most the event will ever have raised.

If it were included in Peer to Peer Professional Forum’s “P2P Fundraising 30,” last year’s Boston Marathon would have ranked 17th among all P2P programs in 2015 gross total and second among single events. In other words, the race raises an enormous amount of money.
That should be cause for universal celebration. But not everyone is thrilled with the idea of Boston Marathon as charity run.

Following a very public dispute, a 9/11 charity has announced that its annual stair climb will be at 1 World Trade Center. The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation announced the climb will take place on the morning of Sunday, May 15th—with a new finish line.
The group said, "While last year's climb went to the 90th floor of One World Trade Center, which was still under construction, this year the climb will finish at One World Observatory, with its breathtaking views of New York, on the 102nd floor. One World Observatory is located at One World Trade Center."

Guests at the 13th annual Shadow Wood Charitable Foundation February gala raised $325,000 for nine local nonprofits – and pushed the total donations over the history of the event past the $2 million mark. Funds raised at the event will be dispersed to the foundation’s supported charities: Bonita Springs Assistance Office, Cafe of Life, Feeding the 5000, Friends of the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties, ICSL Food Pantry and Community Outreach, Literacy Council Gulf Coast, Meals on Wheels of Bonita Springs, and New Horizons of Southwest Florida.
