Pizza delivery by drone | T + Biscuits

The DomiCopter is a project we worked on with Domino's Pizza and AeroSight, a UK based drone specialist.

Tamitha Skov's insight:

"Now you know how your future pizza and beer (see adjacent article) will be delivered. That is, as long as the Space Weather is good. Otherwise, your next door neighbor (or perhaps one a few hundred meters away) might be getting a free lunch."

Attendees of the Oppikoppi event in South Africa will be served by aerial robots.

Tamitha Skov's insight:

"The idea in of itself is fantastic. However, commercially available drones use a very simple GPS navigation receiver and we underestimate how often GPS signals are disrupted. We need only to look at precision farming and all the trouble GPS equipped tractors have during inclement Space Weather to see how this very novel idea could lead to a very real tragedy."

Next we hope to see dornes doing even more productive activity for example search and rescue missions or even delivering life saving medication to remote locations- or is that asking for too much ?

I agree: drones can and will be an unstoppable force in the future, used for all sorts of civil and commercial needs. The FCC believes there could be more than 15,000 drones in the skies by 2020. That is why I am trying to raise visibility of the very real Space Weather issues. Somebody should not have to die in a preventable accident before necessary failsafes are implemented.
