Sophie's insight:

Storytelling - An excellent clip to show to the class. When I was doing my preliminary school experience the teacher showed the children this clip and all pupils were totally engrossed in the dramatic storytelling. They loved the different voices and expression David Walliams used In his story and couldn't wait to listen to more or better still they wanted to read the book themselves. It was lovely to hear so much laughter in the classroom.

Sophie's insight:

CH-UN-KING

Great video explaining the principle of chunking. Breaking down words/numbers/sentences etc. Chunking can be a much easier way for our brains to cognitively process information and can be used on multiple occasions throughout the classroom. I feel this video would be most suited to teachers' rather than pupils.

Modern Foreign Language Story Telling

I think this is a novel way of teaching a modern foreign language by using a classic, well known English story, 'Little Red Riding Hood'. Here the teacher gets the children to read, repeat and use actions to  re-tell the story in French. She then later uses the washing line technique to concentrate on two specific phrases. It is the repetition that is key to consolidate the new phrases. This video is more suited to teachers' professional development.

Getting the children to design their own pieces to showcase to the rest of the school possibly catwalk style. Using art and design to convey the sustainability message. Suitable to show children and a good teaching resource.

AB EX NY: The Painting Techniques of Jackson Pollock: One: Number 31, 1950 - YouTube

The Painting Techniques of Jackson Pollock: One: Number 31, 1950 Abstract Expressionist New York The Museum of Modern Art, October 3, 2010--April 11, 2011 Mo...
Sophie's insight:

ABSTRACT ART - Jackson Pollock.

I believe that is important to teach children that art can come in many different forms, it does not have to be rigid it can be fluid and expressive. That art is not only portraits and drawings etc.. Art has no limits, it can be whatever you want it to be. Here Pollock uses materials of differing viscosity to produce a large scale painting with multiple layers. It is an iconic piece of American art history which was broadcast to the public, showcasing that art can be a performance not just the end piece. Suitable for teachers' professional development, with the theory of abstract art being taught to the children. I feel the video is suited more to teachers however, I would play certain parts of the clip to the class.

Sophie's insight:

Shape song

I know that this doesn't really apply to upper primary age range however, I felt it was important to put this on my page.

When I did a previous primary placement the teacher used this frequently throughout the day to draw the children back into their learning lines. As soon as she played the clip the children instantly sat on the carpet and started singing it aloud; all of them knew the song off by heart and could identify all of the 2D shapes used within the lesson. It highlights and again reinforces the importance of music and repetition in learning. Suitable to show to foundation and key stage 1 children.

Modern Art Sculpture for Kids | Inner Child Fun - YouTube

How to make a modern art sculpture. Great project for kids (or the kid in you!)
Sophie's insight:

Sculptures

As the national curriculum states, there is a need to focus on improving a childs' mastery of art and design techniques, including drawing, painting and SCULPTURE with a range of materials. Using materials such as those used in this video, wire and tissue paper children can start to create their own sculptures. Again this relates to Picassos' work as he made some of the earliest constructed sculptures from everyday materials. Suitable to show to children.
