FORT MYERS - Some crooks broke into a Fort Myers gym and stole all of the Christmas presents that the members had been collecting for kids in need.

It's the sixth year that Fort Myers Fitness 24/7 has gathered gifts. This year, 31 families at Harns Marsh Middle School were on the gym's Christmas list.

It's a campus where many kids are in need. But the choice of a thief has put the families' Christmas in jeopardy.

Toys, bikes and cash were all donated just in time for Christmas.

A week before the holiday, the gym turns into Santa's workshop where people sort gifts and build bikes.

That's how this year was supposed to go. But thieves stole the Christmas cheer. The gym was vandalized; 12 bikes and over $700 in cash, donations and toys are all gone.

Some of them are one-of-a-kind.

"Two pair of signed shoes from the Denver Nuggets - number 35 and Ty Lawson," Raymond said.

The shoes were a part of a raffle that is supposed to happen next week at the gym's bench press competition.

The gym donates what it can and then raises more money during the lifting contest to buy more for the kids.

As Fort Myers Fitness deals with the broken key cards, a missing surveillance system and jimmied locks, Raymond says he sees the damage for what it is - a scratch when compared to the thought of so many kids not getting a Christmas...
