CCCB LAB » Arxiu del Bloc » MuseumNext Barcelona. Mobile culture: strategies, applications, augmented reality and QR codes | Museums, innovation and emerging technologies | Scoop.it

"By the year 2016 there will be over 10,000 million mobiles connected to the Internet and last year in Spain there were already more smartphone lines than ADSL lines, as noted by Albert Sierra in his presentation on heritage apps during the DIGIMUS conference. The figures for usage and implementation of mobile technology evidence a vertiginous change in the form of transmitting and sharing cultural contents, both by institutions and users."

Making sense of the 8 Elements of Digital Literacy

Making sense of the 8 Elements of Digital Literacy | Museums, innovation and emerging technologies | Scoop.it
Over the past few months the Pride Project Team have been exploring how we might make use of Doug Belshaw’s framework for understanding digital literacies (outlined in his book The Essential Elements of Digital Literacies and in his Ed.D thesis). Following the excellent work undertaken by our researchers Jo and Charlotte in mapping the discipline-specific statements of graduate skills, attributes and practices to the 8 elements outlined in Doug’s book, we are now beginning to delve deeper into what these elements might mean for students at the University of Bath. One output from this work will be the creation of a diagnostic skills survey where students are able to self-assess their digital literacies and be given guidance as to the options and pathways available to them to develop their skills, attributes and practices.

Discovery Should Be Delivery: User-Centric Principles for Discovery as a Service - The Scholarly Kitchen | Museums, innovation and emerging technologies | Scoop.it

The discovery environment is often frustrating for all stakeholders. Tools are fragmented. Metadata is insufficient. Authentication and interface design issues block access to resources even when one has rights to them. Even Google and Google Scholar, often cited as favorites of researchers because of ease of use and relative success in identifying full-text, are limited by questions of coverage and limited transparency in algorithms for search and results ranking.

Brian Steffens's curator insight, January 8, 12:53 PM

If you read just one item today, make it this one. Prioritize thus: 1. User 2. Business 3. Team 4 Self. A handful of years ago I asked several young entrepreneurs at SXSW about their priorities. Top response: "I wake up every morning with a relentless focus on the user experience." I've been sharing that mantra ever since. If you don't have users, you don't have a business. Countless research teams have determined that teams usually produce stronger results than lone innovators.
