Rachael Johnston's curator insight, December 7, 2014 11:25 PM

As Tumblr is nowhere near as popular as Twitter or Facebook, I rarely hear about it. However, this article gives 5 tips on how to use a Tumblr account effectively. They say that if you use this as your primary marketing platform you should use it for your primary blogging place too. But I don't think you should only use Tumblr. I think you could use this in addition to one of the more popular platforms, but I don't know if you will be able to reach a large enough target market to make the platform effective.

If you do choose to, the tips are:

1. Create themed blogs for campaigns. This can bring more attention to your page and can create engagement around your theme.

2. Promote company culture by linking to your Instagram account. Instagram pictures apparently look really good on Tumblr. It is very visually appealing, and people love visual things.

3. Analyze your Tumblr page's performance. You can do this by using Google Analytics. You should use this to see how many people are coming to your blog, from where, how long they're staying on your blog, etc.

4. Connect with professionals in your industry on Tumblr, for the same reasons you do on every other platform.

5. Finally, if you find Tumblr is a successful marking platform for you business, consider Tumblr ads. Tumblr provides the option of video ads, which is pretty cool. It is a good way to attract views. Because Tumblr is also associated with Yahoo, the ads are viewed on the search engine as well, which is new information to me, which I found interesting.

While these numbers might be true on the surface, I think that some early adopters in the B2B space could effectively use both of these tools for recruiting and business leads since the competition is pretty sparse.

Cendrine Marrouat - cendrinemarrouat.com's insight:

If you have been in networking events, you know how uncomfortable the experience can be. It's not so much that you cannot meet interesting people, it's just that many of us, who are introverts, can't stand the idea of small talk.
Well, according to Kim Nicol, you don't have to network anymore. See every little situation as an opportunity to build relationships.
"So if you're an introvert, like me, who struggled to make peace with the idea of networking, take heart! You now have permission to never network again. Instead, connect to your innate curiosity and focus on building relationships. Practice anywhere." - Kim Nicol

Social media ROI is a fancy phrase these days.

As Kristina Cisnero states, "Before creating a measurement strategy for social media, create a social media strategy. Within that social media strategy you’ll need to add a section for tracking and measuring, and in that section you’ll need to think about the analytic tools to use."

Twitter's Founder Unintentionally Gave Content Marketers the Best Advice Ever

Twitter's Founder Unintentionally Gave Content Marketers the Best Advice Ever | Social Media for Photographers | Scoop.it
One of the most insightful articles I have ever read.

Today, I was chatting with a friend about the way most marketers focus on numbers and shiny tools. The timeliness of this post is remarkable!

Jay Acunzo says nothing new and doesn't reinvent the wheel:

"Great products solve problems and fulfill desires, whether you sell marketing software or basketball shoes. Great content must do the same."

However, the delivery is something else. I got hooked as soon as I reached this line: "Great content removes steps".

Jay also invites marketers to see themselves as problem solvers. I love it!

I think most of us have accepted the idea that social media has dramatically increased in numbers over the last decade. But I don't think we are fully aware of those numbers and what they actually translate to, paving way for what will come. I loved this article because I thought it was informative and super relevant to shine attention to.

7 Popular Content Marketing Myths You Need to Stop Following

7 Popular Content Marketing Myths You Need to Stop Following | Social Media for Photographers | Scoop.it
As content marketing gets more popular, people are coming up with their own notions of what everyone should be doing. A lot of these notions are myths,
Cendrine Marrouat - cendrinemarrouat.com's insight:

With the rise of LinkedIn publishing, people have been re-posting their content on the platform. I have as well. But, now, the way I see it is that thought-leadership is not about trying to gather the biggest number of followers. It's really about the quality of that followership and the actions they will take as a result of reading you.

We are too focused on numbers. It has become an obsession with many entrepreneurs and small business owners.

That's why Neil Pattel's article is a must-read. He drops some truths that need to be heard!

The Death of Social Media.

The Death of Social Media. | Social Media for Photographers | Scoop.it
Social media is the narrative of marketing that's never been the bride, and always the bridesmaid. Is it on its death bed?
Cendrine Marrouat - cendrinemarrouat.com's insight:

Lately, a lot of conversations I've had with people have revolved around the lack of respect towards social media.

Albert Qian's article is right on point in that sense. As he mentions, brands still make the same mistakes, despite being caught red-handed many times.

"Social media will always be necessary as a channel to reach an audience, but the context of social is going to change as we know it in the coming years. Be ready."
