How Social Media Distracts You at Work [INFOGRAPHIC]

How Social Media Distracts You at Work [INFOGRAPHIC] | Social media - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

How often does the social media monster swallow you whole?

More than you may think, according to Red e App, which lets consumers get notifications from businesses without having to provide their personal information.

The company developed an infographic, below, that details how interruptions impact employee productivity.

“Is it possible to be too connected in this digital age?” Red e App asks in a blog post. “Research data indicates, yes.”

Among the findings, the infographic shows that workers are interrupted approximately once every 10.5 minutes, and that it takes an average of 23 minutes to return to an assigned task. The impact of these interruptions is staggering — costing the American economy almost $650 billion dollars a year, it says.

The infographic then breaks down the amount of time that Facebook, Twitter and email suck out of your day.

The Limitations of 'Like'

The Limitations of 'Like' | Social media - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it
Whenever anything happens 3.2 billion times per day, you have to wonder whether its recurrence diminishes its significance.

Specifically, I’m talking about Facebook’s inescapable LIKE button (perhaps you’ve heard of it). The average Facebook user clicks ‘like’ 3.5 times every day — anything from friends’ wedding photos to slapstick status updates to videos of innocent childhood relics getting blown apart by explosives. Like. Like. Like. Like. Like. It’s everywhere.

How Mobile, Social Will Win the 2012 Olympics [INFOGRAPHIC]

How Mobile, Social Will Win the 2012 Olympics [INFOGRAPHIC] | Social media - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

The increase in mobile technology is sure to have a profound effect on how millions of viewers — and many athletes — experience the 2012 Games. Fans will be able to converse, debate and rave communally as never before because of mobile proliferation and the explosive growth of social media over the past four years.

The digital marketing agency iProspect recently looked at social growth too, but expanded the lens to include mobile, coverage and viewership numbers as well. Some of iProspect’s social numbers are slightly different than the ones we highlighted — but that’s because just when in 2008 you grab data from delivers different results. Either way, the comparison offers a great snapshot of how much the media landscape has changed since the last Summer Olympics.

iProspects findings, culled from Nielsen, eMarketer and Forrester, are presented in the infographic below.

Why You Shouldn't Ignore Google+ Anymore

Why You Shouldn't Ignore Google+ Anymore | Social media - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

Google+ has now been with us for one year.It almost seems like it was just yesterday when it was announced.

12 months later it appears that it is now the third largest social network in the English speaking world behind Twitter and of course Facebook.

What a lot of people don’t realize as cocooned westerners is that we don’t have a monopoly on successful social networks with Sina Weibo in China having over 300 million users with over 100 million messages being posted every day.

It does appear though that it is now possible that Google+ will be knocking on Facebook’s door within a couple years.

Google+ vs Facebook

Google+ vs Facebook | Social media - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

I am starting to wonder if Google+ is a waste of time as a marketing platform for bloggers and brands.
Google+ launched with a bang last year and has now reached over 170 million registered users and 100 million active users.
The demographic is mainly male at 67%, the average age is 28 years old with a technical bent.
I do like the Google+ interface and I am sure it had a significant impact on maintaining competitive pressure on Facebook to keep its user interface fresh with its new “Timeline” design rollout and evolution.
But there is a problem.
Google+’s engagement levels are so low that actually rank behind MySpace and almost any other significant social network you want to mention.

15 Reasons Why You’ve Just Been Unfollowed On Twitter [INFOGRAPHIC] - AllTwitter | Social media - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it
Did you know that the number one reason why somebody unfollows you on Twitter is because you are making too much noise?

That is, sending out too many tweets that contain little or no “signal”. In a recent multiple answer study, 52 percent of respondents chose this as their top reason, ahead of too much self-promotion (48 percent), posting spam (47 percent), being uninteresting (43 percent) and too much repetition (29 percent).

These, and ten other main reasons why you’re getting unfollowed (alongside a lot of minor ones), can be found in this infographic from the Marketing Tech Blog, who used data taken from an Econsultancy survey.

By now everyone and their dog knows I love social media. I gave up my full time job at a national law firm to pursue my passion and it’s pretty incredible to do what you love (and get paid). 1. Social media is free

2. You need influencers

3. You’re guaranteed a new client within X amount of days

4. You need to be happy all the time

How to Use Twitter's New Search Features

How to Use Twitter's New Search Features | Social media - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

Microblogging platform Twitter overhauled its search this week, making finding users, hashtags and mentions easier.

Twitter’s “simpler search” lets users discover more news in real time. The search updates also let users connect more efficiently. Just think about all the times you’ve input the wrong name or misplaced a letter and subsequently missed out on results.

Even when a search term is misspelled or slightly off, Twitter now pulls up results for what you may have meant. The spelling correction feature and related suggestions are improving the Twitter search experience tremendously.

Twitter will be rolling out autocompletion to users over the next few weeks, Twitter’s product team tweeted.

Who is Using Twitter? | Jeffbullas's Blog | Social media - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

Twitter as the mysterious online cousin to the mobile text message has always been branded with strange names.
Twitter users have often been associated with terms such as Twits, Tweeps and Twerps and have hidden their tweeting idiosyncrasies from friends and family. Like an alcoholic hides their bottles.
The 140 character limit has been cast as not necessary in a world of “Big Data”, where saying a lot is valued more than saying less.
I have often been asked to explain what Twitter means at dinner parties and one of my favorite phrases has been
“It is like a SMS on Steroids”
Its brevity is its charm and strength.

Know Your Readers And Write Usable Blog Posts For Them

Know Your Readers And Write Usable Blog Posts For Them | Social media - ThatWay.eu | Scoop.it

If you fail to know who your readers are and how to tailor your blog posts to meet their needs and interests you risk losing followers and having your blog fall by the wayside. However, if you are committed to creating a blog that engages your readers and attracts reader comments you will need to gain some insight into who your readers are and what they seek from your blog.

In order for your blog to be successful you must be adept at choosing a target market and addressing the content of your blog toward their needs. Think of the issue in terms of a bull’s eye: how likely are you to hit it with a blindfold? The same concept applies to developing a blog following: unless you know where to aim, you will miss the mark and either never build a following or lose the readers you currently have.

Start by asking the following questions: Who is the target market for your blog? How can you tailor the content so that it is relevant and interesting to this market? Both are essential questions to consider as you set up your blog and plan each post. Every entry you post to your blog is an exercise in target marketing: you are providing good content at the same time you are promoting your blog to current and future followers.

Part One of this article will explore how you can define your blog reader so you can effectively tailor your content to them. Part Two discusses how you may use metrics to chart your Return on Investment (ROI).

Pinterest might work for arts and culture-oriented organizations, but it’s not necessarily the best tool for all organizations. The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art has got some beautiful boards on Pinterest, though even they have very few repins so far (and probably far fewer memberships sales from their work on Pinterest).
