Salesforce and Microsoft team up on mobile, Office 365

Salesforce and Microsoft team up on mobile, Office 365 | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it
The rumors are true: Microsoft and Salesforce are burying the hatchet and teaming up to bring native apps to Windows and Windows Phone and Salesforce data into Office 365.
AlGonzalezinfo's insight:

For those of us doing CRM analysis, this is a very interesting read.

From the post:

But it certainly makes sense that Microsoft wouldn't want to encourage competition with its own Dynamics CRM product. For Salesforce's part, it puts new tools into the hands of its existing customers and can potentially drive adoption of its core CRM product by validating their existing Office investments.

And as a brief aside, Benioff noted that the ExactTarget marketing cloud, acquired by Salesforce for $2.5 billion last year, will continue to be hosted on Microsoft Azure, while Salesforce as a whole will be extending its use of the Microsoft SQL Server database management product.

It's certainly going to be interesting to see where this partnership goes.

Why You Should Forget Facebook

Why You Should Forget Facebook | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it

Has Facebook got you fooled? Are you chasing likes for your brand page? Checkout the decline in FB reach from 2012 to 2013 above!

AlGonzalezinfo's insight:

Ever since Facebook started its "News Feed Algorithm" in 2013 I became disinterested in it.   This article does a great job on how FB changes have affected the reach of the content you post.

It appears that less than 4% of people are seeing your updates in their newsfeed!

Here are some options from the post.

3. Switch your social media focus

There are many other social media networks that will drive traffic to your blog and website that you don’t have to pay for. These include Twitter, Linkedin, Google+ and Pinterest to name a few.

There are a couple of channels that have surprised me over the last 6 months. They are Flipboard (is starting to drive more traffic than Facebook) and even the often forgotten Stumbleupon.

The Ideal Length for All Online Content

The Ideal Length for All Online Content | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it

Every so often when I’m tweeting or emailing, I’ll think: Should I really be writing so much?

I tend to get carried away. And for the times that I do, it sure would be nice to know if all this extra typing is hurting or helping my cause. I want to stand out on social media, but I want to do it in the right way.

Curious, I dug around and found some answers for the ideal lengths of tweets and titles and everything in between. Many of these could have been answered with “it depends,” but where’s the fun in that?

Solid research exists to show the value of writing, tweeting, and posting at certain lengths. We can learn a lot from scientific social media guidelines like these. Here’s the best of what I found.

Interesting. I have to disagree with blog length - 1600 words (about a 7-minute read) might be good for SEO, but it's a long time to expect readers to stay with you. Respect their time and keep it short

AlGonzalezinfo's insight:

From academia to corporate, marketers need to attract, engage strangers to the brand.

In Marketing, we create the best "hook" and cast the widest "net" to Attract the best prospects.

We then we need to pass that information to those who Convert and Close.

That is where the CRM AND good communications takes over.

After we Close, all stakeholders participate in the process of Delighting and Stewarding.

How To Improve Your Blog Writing Skills

How To Improve Your Blog Writing Skills | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it

There is a myth that I encounter frequently that you are either a good writer or a bad writer. I do not believe this to be true.

In this article, I would like to share my experience and give you advice on how you can all improve your writing skills. I hope you find them useful.

Via Stefano Principato
AlGonzalezinfo's insight:

As a busy prefessional and blogger, I can't sustain all the practices included in the article.  The 3 that I can sustain are:

~Getting back to basics

~Removing the filler

~Evaluating my writing

If I had more time, I would do the rest, but, if you are like me, these three are critical.

Stefano Principato's curator insight, March 26, 2014 10:24 AM

You should try and get into the habit of writing most days. I do not believe that your writing will improve much by writing one or two short five hundred word blog posts a week.

You need to write frequently and reach a point where writing becomes second nature.

Great story and message:

“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet.” ― Jean-Jacques Rousseau

Nowadays, we are far removed from the ’80s, when there was no Internet, instant messaging or Skype phone calls. This is affecting all of us and in particular the younger generation which has grown accustomed to being bombarded with fast-turnover information; they filter it instantly without paying much attention to its meaning.

Our whole society is becoming instantaneous, just like instant messaging, instant photography, instant news, instant coffee and so forth. We are unwilling to decipher any complicated messages, wanting things simple and fast. Depth and nuance are out the window.

The biggest weakness of today’s generation is impatience...

The Importance Of Properly Managing Your Social Profiles

The Importance Of Properly Managing Your Social Profiles | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it
2013 was filled with Social Media blunders and we've collected some of the best mishaps, whilst looking at what you can do to avoid them this year.
AlGonzalezinfo's insight:

Excellent source on mishaps and how to avoid them.

Check this out:

Burger King and JeepThe reason these two seemingly unrelated brands are being lumped together is because they were both hacked within the same week, and apparently by the same people. The hacks changed both brand’s Twitter pictures to their competition, and posted a series of tweets giving shout outs to other twitter users, accusing employees of drug abuse and generally just spouting nonsense. The accounts were promptly ‘fixed’, but not before the tweets were retweeted tens of thousands of times, and the damage to the brands was done.
Victoria Aupont's curator insight, February 1, 2014 5:11 PM

This blog post showed how different brands did not carefully manage their social media in 2013 and ways to how they could have prevented these issue. One of the issues that stood out to me is the burger king and jeep social media incidents. Apparently, both brands got hacked and the hackers changed their profiles pictures and profile name to their competitor’s name and logo. On burger king twitter page, the hackers started tweeting about how burger king employees are doing drugs and other lies about the brand. Even though the company could not handle this problem before the tweets were retweeted over a thousand times, it helped increase the followers and traffic on their page. Sometimes bad publicity can turn into good publicity that can lead to more followers than before the incident. This can happen with a good public relation specialist by your side.

This blog post should remind us to be mindful of the things that you put on the World Wide Web more especially on social media. From a company perspective, their social media is a controlled channel used to talk to, relate and get feedback with customers. When handling your own social media you still have to be mindful on the things you say and do on your site. It may be used against you when searching for employment. Many people have not been hired or have gotten fired because of the content they chose to show on social media. When working for a company you become a face of the brand and then you are expected to uphold a particular image. This topic has become one of the most talked about topics in the work field. The model used for social media is the two- way symmetrical model which encourages two way communication that led to mutual understanding and cooperation (Guth & Marsh pg 7). Brand/companies are encouraged to respond back to the feedback they encounter through their social media.

When handling a social media sight for a company many precautions should be taken such as avoiding unnecessary negative topics, being careful when approaching new topics, and wording of tweets. Anything can be taking the wrong way and before you know it your brands need crisis management help.

An example of crisis management help is John and Kate plus 8. John & Kate relationship took a turn for the worst with lies and deceit and through television and social media things became very messy for them. In this repair case, Kate reputation was saved more than the John’s because Kate hired a public relations specialist to help manage and properly handle each situation. They went though many phases and strategies to repair Kate image. Some strategies that were used was reducing offensiveness of event, plan to solve, and reduce credibility of accuser.

The makings of a modern business hotel

The makings of a modern business hotel | Social Media Resources & e-learning | Scoop.it
A new breed of business travelers is demanding connectivity and green initiatives from hotels.
AlGonzalezinfo's insight:

A new breed indeed!  It is all about social web and connectivity for the next generation of business travelers!

From the article:

They're social animals.

While many worried that with the onslaught of communication tools like e-mail and texting kids would grow up without the ability to connect face-to-face, it turns out that millennials are all about socializing and networking.

Thus you'll find an increasing number of hotels engaging their guests with regularly scheduled events such as happy hours, wine tastings and pool parties.

Taking networking a step further, when it opened last year, New York's TRYP By Windham Times Square South became the first U.S. hotel to partner with a social media app called LobbyFriend, which encourages hotel guests to connect and socialize with one another during their stays.
